The military rely a lot of intelligence. That is why they are able to do things that we civilians find really amazing. Now, online we have access to marketing intelligence that we can’t afford to overlook if we intend to make the most of our affiliate marketing and other online ventures.

For you to start to generate affiliate revenue, you need to have products to recommend and have a lot of people to make those recommendations to. If you recommend stuff to those who are dying for it, your task becomes a lot easier.

When you do a keyword research, you get to know what people are searching for, how many people search for a particular thing, how they search for it and those who provide what they are searching for.

This information will help you decide on the best niche to target and which keywords to focus on when writing your pages. It shows you how profitable a keyword is, how much ad revenue can be made from each keyword and a whole lot of other stuff.

Take for example, that you have chosen a keyword and you have a page that ranks well for it. You would have loved to promote a product on this page. However, when you look through your research data, you notice that advertisers pay a lot for just a click.

With this kind of information, you can easily determine if it’s in your best interest to place Google’s Adsense or Yahoo’s ads on the page or simply go ahead with your affiliate promotion.

If you didn’t have the right data, you wouldn’t have been able to decide what was best for you as far as maximizing your affiliate revenue was concerned.

There are a lot of bits and pieces that you can’t afford to ignore if you want to make the most affiliate revenue. Make reading through and studying good affiliate marketing books an important part of your plans.

If you want a great book on how you, too, can succeed in your affiliate business, get this one. It is free but believe me, you won’t need to buy another book on affiliate marketing for a very long time.

Pajama Paycheck is live. When I say live, it is explosive. This is one of the newest and most incredible sites for 2007 for many types of online marketing.

Peter Walsh isn’t holding back any areas here!

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure making the acquaintance of online marketer Peter Walsh. I had been speaking with one of my friends for several days about a new product that Peter was coming out with called Pajama Paycheck. So of course my buddy James and I were pretty excited about having a look at Pajama Paycheck.

Upon first glance, looking at the sales page and what not, I thought, "Wow, you know, this is a pretty nice looking sales letter, Peter really looks like he knows what he’s doing here." Always being somewhat of a skeptic after being sold on many bad things in the past, I couldn’t wait to have a look inside the members area.

Inside the members area is really what had opened up my eyes to the value of the training that is to be had by Pajama Paycheck. Peter has videos, audio recordings, books, tools, and great invaluable information on becoming successful at making money online. I’m not entirely new to marketing online so I do know great information when I see it. Actually, watching one of the videos, Peter had taught me a little trick, that hadn’t really occurred to me before. Once I realized the power of what he was saying it really made a lot of sense to me! In the future, I’m sure it’s also going to make a lot of sense to my bank account too!

Surprisingly, I thought that it would be just about affiliate marketing. While it offers exceptional information on affiliate marketing. Peter decided to take it a few steps further. He included information on dropshipping, paid online surveys, making money on ebay, etc, etc.

It appears Pajama Paycheck is really trying to touch on many different aspects of online marketing besides just affiliate marketing. This is really a nice touch to find these sorts of things all in the same place.

Now, having watched the videos, and looking at the value that Peter is offering at such a ridiculously low price, I really get the impression that Peter Walsh is really trying to genuinely help out the little guy in this onslaught of internet marketing mayhem.

The real value of Pajama Paycheck as well is that Peter Walsh is adding new videos and materials every month. Once you sign up for everything you get free updates for life. So it’s not like you have to pay month after month, like some membership sites to keep learning. As time goes on Peter Walsh will really be adding value over and over again!

With that being said, I invite you to go and have a look at this great site yourself. Take it from somebody who knows. Peter has really hit the ball way out of the park with this one!!

I’m confident you will be impressed!

Many affiliate marketers know that it is too easy for others to change their ClickBank links. It’s as easy as replacing the original affiliate’s ClickBank nickname with your own.

And this is a serious difficulty in the ClickBank affiliate marketing model.

But fortunately there is a simple solution which you can use to protect your affiliate commissions.

But first, a short aside:

I’ve seen some marketers use a free redirection service like TinyURL.com or Shurl.org and a handful of others, but to my way of thinking they all look tacky. In the marketing context, that is. Other uses may be fine, but not when you’re promoting a product or a service and then you send a prospect to a link like that.

I wonder if anybody has done testing to see what damage that does to their conversion rates. Actually I cant imagine any serious marketer even wanting to try that.

EASY PROTECTION FOR YOUR AFFILIATE LINK:

While nothing is perfect, the following system is good. And in fact, ClickBank themselves recommend it, although not all affiliates have noticed this, I am sure.

ClickBank recommends that affiliates use this format:

STEP 1. Open a new blank text file.

I use Notepad because it adds none of the extra characters that Microsoft Word, for example, adds. Those extra characters mess things up in HTML. Notepad is available free at notepad.org but you can use any plain text editor you like. I also use Notepad++ for its expanded functionality. It’s also free and you can get it from notepad-plus.sourceforge.net.

STEP 2. Paste the above ClickBank HTML code into your text file, replace PUBLISHER with the vendor’s ClickBank nickname and replace ITEM with your ClickBank nickname, then save the file as keyword.html

Any keyword will do. Okay, any word will do. But since you’re an affiliate marketer let’s choose something relevant here… a keyword or the product name, maybe.

STEP 3. Upload keyword.html to your server. And test it by visiting yourdomain.com/keyword.html and you should be immediately redirected to the affiliate program you are promoting. Click on the Buy link and your affiliate nickname should be displayed at the bottom of the following page.

When people go online to learn how to make money fast, they end up learning the concepts of affiliate marketing. Why? Because affiliate marketing is great money making idea for the ordinary people-with little or no investment, you can start your own affiliate marketing business from the comfort of your home and make money right away!

When you decide to make money in affiliate marketing, you need to spend a little money in order to make money grow. When you decide on becoming an affiliate and promote other people’s products, you need to setup your own website or blog where you can promote your affiliate products. You can choose whatever topic you are interested in, or start promoting products that are in great demand.

Once you decide on a subject, you need to find a product owner who will provide you with all the tools necessary to help you start making money in no time. Also, since you have already setup your own website, make sure that that the products you choose to promote are relevant to the content of your website or blog, otherwise you won’t make any money.

The best way to earn money fast is to promote a product of your own choice. There is some groundwork and investment involved in this, but the profits you will start making from your promotions will be worth the money and time you spend in choosing the product. You can promote the product using a pay per click service like Adwords or Bidvertiser. Or you can also join the pay per lead programs, which give your leads that are targeted to your market. You can also buy targeted visitors for your site, visitors who are already interested in your subject or topic and therefore more likely to buy your affiliate product. When these people buy your affiliate product through your affiliate link you make money in the form of a commission from the original product owner. Since you have already profited from the little investment that you made, your next job is to determine how to make money grow.

The key to make your money grow is to re-invest your profits and prepare for your business to grow. This is particularly important for those who start their career with affiliate marketing. As your business grows, you have to think of how to make your money grow. Because even though we all are here to make money, but our aim would always be to make the maximum income possible.

In order to make residual income from your affiliate marketing career, you have to re-invest at least 50-60% of your affiliate earnings. For instance you spent $200 on advertising a product and earned a commission of about $400/month. Instead of using up your profit of $200 in buying groceries and clothes, you should re-invest the money in buying more advertising so that you can double up your income the next month. When you think your business is flourishing and it can sustain on its own, you can now take a part of your profits and treat yourself to anything you want.

Simply making money in affiliate programs is not enough. You should never stop until you have reached your desired income. All it needs is a little patience, and a little hard work from you. Be patient and work hard and you will soon master the steps of making your money grow the way you want!

Do you struggle to choose an affiliate program for your website. This picture reminds me of myself after building a website and driving traffic to the website only to find out that I cannot monetize the traffic.

I learnt the steps of creating html pages, optimizing the websites for search engines and driving tons of traffic to the website, but I could not monetize my traffic. I tried numerous things. I put different affiliate links tried positioning the links in different places. I tried different font sizes and popup windows. I thought that the affiliate programs that I tried just did not convert and just did not know what to do next. I could build websites and drive traffic to them but I could not monetize my traffic. I nearly quit and my dreams of becoming an online entrepreneur almost completely shattered.

One day I almost gave up my internet business up when I decided that I would find a way that works and monetize my traffic. I sat and brainstormed ideas. Suddenly the solution appeared in my head. I needed to ask my visitors.

An example of how to do it with the exact steps required follows next. Use an opt in form on your website where you offer your visitor some kind of free newsletter or course or download. On your first or second email to your newsletter subscriber you simply need to ask them what products will suit them best. Send your newsletter subscriber an email like this:

Subject: [[firstname]], Thank You

Hi [[firstname]]

I would like to introduce myself. I run the website [[yourwebsite]].

In the interest of serving my visitor’s need better I would like to know your most important concern of affiliate marketing? Can you please take 30 seconds to reply to this email so that I can develop products and services that will help to serve you better.

Kind Regards [[Yourname]]

After obtaining the necessary information from your email you need to select the affiliate program that you will use on your website. You can use Clickbank and Commission Junction to look for a reputable affiliate program. You need to ensure that a significant portion of their income must come from their affiliates which will mean that the affiliate program converts and it should also pay at least 50% commission so that you can earn decent commissions. Finally try to use a fairly well established company to ensure that it will not easily go out of business and you will not lose your affiliate commissions.

After making your list of top affiliate programs I suggest testing the links on your website and choose the best performing affiliate program.

Using these steps you can pick a highly profitable affiliate program that will bring you profits for years to come.

Wendy Shepherd: Hi guys!

Shawn Collins: Hi Wendy!

Lisa Picarille: Hi Wendy!

Wendy: Happy New Year!

Shawn: Happy New Year to you! Thanks for calling in.

Wendy: I have the first one of the year?

Shawn: Yes, we’re very excited to have you on here.

Lisa: Not only the first one of the year, but our first live interview so far.

Wendy: Oh really?

Shawn: Yeah, we’ve been playing it safe just having these prerecorded ones, but we figured we’d go out on the limb here with you.

Wendy: Oh yeah. [laughs] No, it sounds fun.

Lisa: So, I’ll let Shawn start it off and ask a couple questions, and I’m going to jump in.

Shawn: OK, I guess one thing that’s for the benefit of the audience here, I know all about you Wendy, but if you’d just give a really quick re-cap of what you’ve done, and sort of who you are, over the last few years with affiliate marketing?

Wendy: Yeah, okay. I first started off making a website. It was just out of things of interest, and then found out that people liked what I put up there, and decided to try some different things that were coming out back in those days. Like MSN was offering "free to make money" without even having to like officially have an advertiser, they really weren’t sponsoring you, but that was sort of when I noticed what we know of course as, "affiliate programs" came out and that I can make money "per click." It was like.25 cents per click back then.

Shawn: How far back is that?

Wendy: ‘97 - ‘98.

Shawn: Wow.

Wendy: Somewhere around there. And I decided that I would just keep learning more about it, and see what I could do. I found out that it was better to have a website that was a domain name - a dot.com. So I went ahead and got my first ".com," and started making a little bit of money then, and it’s gradually increased over the years.

Shawn: So was that first domain "Tipz Time," or was that a different one?

Wendy: Yeah, Tipz Time.

Shawn: Is that spelled Tips with a "Z" - Tipz Time?

Wendy: Yeah, I actually own both now.

Shawn: Oh, you do?

Wendy: Yeah, I have one that forwards to the other one. But now I have lots and lots of websites.

Lisa: Wendy, the last time I talked to you was a little over a year ago. Revenue Magazine was putting together their special anniversary issue for two full years, and you were in the very first issue of the magazine as one of the - Five Who Thrive.

Wendy: Right.

Lisa: We went back and revisited those folks to see where they were, you know last year, and one of the things that you said you were working on was a, "top secret, really unique project." And I never heard exactly what came about with that so, did that come to fruition, and what was it?

Wendy: It actually hasn’t yet. The expense to get it going is a lot more than I expected, so it’s sort of on hold still. All the ideas are there, I keep building on the ideas. It’s a big start-up cost for it, so when it does happen I’ll let you know.

Lisa: The other things you talked about were you said that, "You were contemplating writing some books in the future." I wondered if you had done that as well.

Wendy: I started, but yeah, it’s been a busy year, as home-schooling and being a mom they sort of cut into my time off and on. But, yeah I have started on this so you know they’re in the process still. I’ve also been changing a lot of things, reorganizing where my focus is, getting back into focusing more on affiliate programs than doing services like web design. So, by freeing up my time, I’ll be able to work on those two projects more.

Shawn: So for the books you mentioned, do you looking to self-publish, or get some kind of deal with the publisher?

Wendy: I’m going to self-publish, and I have talked to a publisher that Joel Comm has worked with.

Shawn: Oh yeah, yeah he did very well with his AdSense Code Book.

Wendy: Yeah, I talked to one of the publishers and he liked what I had to say, so I got encouraged to go ahead and start, so I did.

Lisa: And is this going to be sort of a "how to get started" sort of thing, or talking about "your success?" What’s maybe the focus of your project?

Wendy: A lot of the focus is - trying to help people get started, mostly. Because I get questions all the time on how can I do what you do, how can I get started, and how do you do this. And I can’t always answer everybody’s questions in a lot of detail. So the best thing to do would be to do some e-books first, and then eventually turn them into some books.

Shawn: That will probably be helpful for a lot of affiliate marketers, because I know even after doing this for about 10 years; I still have to re-explain it to my family each year at the holidays.

Lisa: You know speaking of family, I’m wondering are you going to include just sort of practical business advice about how you get started, or are you going to include any of the human stuff which you seem to always talk about, which is you know - home schooling and kind of trying to balance your family, and your work-life, and all of that?

Wendy: I want to include a little bit of everything. Yeah, I mean because it just brings a more human thing, you know to it. You know a lot of things that we read out there when we first start, even when I first started learning, it was a lot of technical talk that I had no clue about. So, making it more basic is going to be a lot easier for some people to learn. They’re also looking for a lot of very detailed step-by-step information.

Shawn: I think one of the neat things about your story is the fact that you were able to sort of leverage affiliate marketing to help earn money while you were home schooling and raising the children, and everything. I think it’s a neat dynamic of the industry.

Wendy: Yeah. You know, I’ve tried a lot of different things. I’ve tried some drop shipping. I’ve tried creating my own products and so forth. But, the best thing that happens is affiliate programs that are set up in place in different areas of the websites that constantly make money when I’m not there. [laughter] And, that is a key for a family that is busy all the time.

Shawn: So, as the kids are getting old are you finding more time for affiliate marketing?

Wendy: Actually, not with them home all day. I do have my oldest son, he just turned 13. [laughter] Now, I have a teen in the house. He actually is showing an interest in learning what I do, too. So, I do take a little bit of time now and then to teach him.

Lisa: And, what sort of things? I mean, are you just sort of starting with the basics? Is he helping you out to actually do any of your work?

Wendy: Actually, he wants to do his own. [laughter]

Lisa: Wow, that’s great!

Wendy: Yeah, he wants to do his own thing. He’s learning HTML and how to put a web page together now. They have to start somewhere. [laughter]

Lisa: And, when’s he going to be up and running so we can check out his site?

Wendy: [laughter] I’m not sure. Maybe this year some time.

Shawn: So, what do you see as far as some, back when you were getting started, was largely content type sites that were affiliated. So, what kind of things are you doing now? Are you looking at all in Web 2.0 kind of things to be affiliated with these days?

Wendy: A lot of the social networking out there is going on whether we have the ability to put it on our own sites or not. So, the best thing for me to do is to tie it into my own sites.

I think it was you who mentioned at first that affiliates and affiliate marketers should be on MySpace. It’s not just for teenagers and kids. It’s amazing how you can easily network with other people and find people that you couldn’t before.

Just being able to plug into that and relate it to your sites in some way, even with one of my sites, Chart Jungle, I set up an area for people to contact me easily. They, for some reason feel more comfortable if they see my picture there and they can contact me without their email address being revealed or anything. And, you can also look into their life by seeing their family pictures and so forth. It’s really just a nice way to connect.

Shawn: Another thing with MySpace that I have found pretty valuable is that, for whatever reason, I get definitely substantially less views there for my blog than I do in my main site’s blog. And, what I do each time is whenever I’ve read a blog is I post it all so it’s a MySpace area. The people are more engaged there for some reason. I get comments there fairly frequently in my blog where I generally don’t get really any at all in my main blog, which has a lot more traffic. So, it seems like there is actually community feeling there.

But, I guess also, MySpace, for all its virtues, I’ve met a lot of really interesting people in there from around the world that are into affiliate marketing that are also sort of a haven for all of the scammer-type of affiliates, Junk sites.

Wendy: [laughter] Yeah. I keep running… It’s funny. You know, when you sign up for MySpace, in their terms, they specifically state that you cannot use affiliate links on your page. And, I see it all the time.

Shawn: Do you have any examples of any the stuff you’ve seen?

Wendy: Well, I’m not going to name specific ones. I get solicited by them a lot on MySpace.

Shawn: A lot of times, I see, if I add somebody as a friend, some people will constantly, in the little bulletin area, they’ll post all kinds of offers that have nothing to do with me.

Wendy: Yeah. I had to turn off HTML comments for that very reason.

[laughter]

Lisa: Does having a teenager help you navigate through any of the new social networking stuff?

Wendy: I actually don’t even let them on there. There’s too many weird things for them to see. [laughter] I don’t know.

Shawn: So, what do you think would be maybe for you, or in general, the future is for affiliate marketing in terms of… Before you can on here you were talking about maybe doing some video and mobile phones. Do you see yourself going in that direction at all?

Wendy: [laughter] I’ve thought of it. But, I think I’m a little too shy for it [laughter] maybe some audio.

Shawn: Don’t want to keep you too long here. Hit the little ten minute mark. So, really appreciate you calling in here and giving some great information. I’m excited to see where everything takes off for you.

Wendy: Yeah. I’m excited to see where you guys, even on TV? [laughter]

Shawn: Yeah. Maybe.

Wendy: You never know. That’s how much it’s growing.

Lisa: Yeah. I think that it’ll be just the "Shawn" show.

[laughter]

Wendy: Well. You know Lisa, you do a great job. We would miss you.

Lisa: Thank you. I’ll look forward to hearing about your new projects. And please keep us informed when you get your book and all the other stuff that you’re doing. We’d love to have you come back and talk about that.

Wendy: all right. Thank you.

Lisa: Thank you.

Shawn: Bye, Wendy!

Wendy: Bye!

Lisa: Bye, Wendy!

Affiliate Project X is not an all inclusive Internet marketing how-to, it’s not even an all inclusive affiliate marketing how-to. As with his first product, the author Chris has written Affiliate Project X for a very targeted audience. This book was written for affiliates who have been playing the game and losing (much as Chris himself was just a few months back). They’ve bought e-books and courses, followed all the steps to a tee, and haven’t made a red cent. This is because they are largely mis-informed about everything. The super affiliates, after all, have been keeping their best methods to themselves, and it’s costing many people a lot of money. Chris calls Affiliate Project X his “getting even” product. He’s mad about all those months he spent chasing red herrings due to mis-information from the gurus, and now that he’s had a chance to mingle with them and steal their techniques, he’s written Affiliate Project X.

Affiliate Project X is a well-written e-book that offers up six methods that can really get your sales going strong. It’s not a rehash of stuff that you can learn by spending time in forums. It’s not an e-book that’s been "inflated" by a lot of white space. There are 71 pages, and each page is packed with information. Each method is laid out in a step-by-step manner, so you have a blueprint to follow. The methods are adaptable to different products, and you do not have to become an Adwords/PPC expert to reap the full benefits. The Advanced Trick section of Affiliate Project X is kind of a bonus information section. It also points you to a free way of implementing one of the advanced tricks, saving you money you otherwise would have spent to get the official software product.

I’d say that the least adaptable method is ‘The Opportunist’, but the basis of the idea is usable - for example, one thought for using this technique to market physical products is to get to know your affiliate manager. Having said that, though, I should emphasize that Affiliate Project X is focused on selling info-products. The methods outlined work best for info-products, and if you’re not currently selling very many Clickbank products, you will come away from Affiliate Project X with lots of ideas for incorporating Clickbank products into your affiliate product portfolio.

Affiliate Project X won’t take you through the nuances of using these tactics to market non info-products - you’ll have to come up with these on your own. But if you’re currently an affiliate marketer for physical products, and you know your market and your particular niches, then you should be able to tailor most of these methods to suit your particular niche.

Affiliate Project X includes methods which don’t require the use of PPC to market your product. And while some of the methods do include using Adwords as part of the process, PPC campaigns are not the basis of these methods.

You can definitely use other non PPC methods of getting traffic and still implement these same methods. And Chris also outlines two non-PPC methods for getting traffic in Affiliate Project x. One is the ‘Workhorse’ method. The other is one of his tips in the Advanced Tricks section.

Will Affiliate Project X give me that six-figure annual income? As with everything else, you have to take action once you’ve learned the methods set out in Affiliate Project X. But I’d say that the methods outlined in Affiliate Project X are very powerful methods that do have the potential of increasing the income from your affiliate marketing efforts. At the very least, if you commit to using some of these methods, you should see an increase in your sales. But you do need to know the basics or be willing to learn the basics of affiliate marketing, and you do need to take action and commit to implementing what you’ve learned.

And if you’ve ever wondered how to pick a Clickbank product to promote, you’ll enjoy the product selection techniques that are outlined in Methods 4 to 6 of Affiliate Project X. Picking the right product to promote plays a huge role in affiliate marketing, and I would say these techniques alone are worth the price of the book.

For the frugal affiliate marketer, there’s “The Workhorse.” This method is slow, time-consuming, and boring, but it is free. Basically, it’s a variation on article marketing, but unlike traditional article marketing, this is not an SEO technique. This is an affiliate marketing technique, and there are some key differences between it and the traditional SEO version.

“Thief in the Night”, this is a great technique for finding out what products are making other affiliates lots of money, so you can copy them and even out do them. I have the feeling, though, that when this technique becomes popular, it won’t be so effective, so you’d do well to read about it now.

Affiliate Project X also includes some updated versions of techniques from AdWords Miracle (authors other e-book) the “Rising Star” and “Copy the Best” methods, plus an advanced techniques section that covers things like link cloaking and tracking your affiliate commissions (in my opinion essential for long-term success as an affiliate).

Another small thing, one of the techniques in Affiliate Project X requires you to have Keyword Elite. Now, Keyword Elite is an excellent program, one that I use myself, and a good investment for any Internet marketer, but this is another case of buying a product only to be told to buy another one. I don’t like that. To be fair, though, this technique can be used, albeit in a limited way, without Keyword Elite. But it would be such a time consuming process, most people wouldn’t bother, for newbie’s though this process will teach them ‘hands on’ keyword research.

In the end, though, these techniques are sure to open some eyes (and annoy the super affiliates from which they were “borrowed”). Will it blow the lid off the whole thing? I don’t know, but it certainly seems to be living up to the hype so far, Affiliate Project X has broken the ClickBank record for sales in a day, and everyone and his mother are promoting the thing. More importantly though, will it make you any money? If you follow Chris’s step-by-step instructions for even one of these methods, I’d say the chances are good.

The chances are that you’ve seen "Ads by Google" on a variety of websites and perhaps wondered what they were all about. The fact is that you can probably get "Ads by Google" on your own site and if you do, you can look forward to getting paid by Google.

The system is called Google AdSense and it does two things really neatly.

First of all it allows virtually any website owner to make some money without having to do too much - all you do is paste some code that Google gives you into your web pages. This code creates the ads that you see and when someone clicks on one of these ads they go to the advertiser’s site. The advertiser is then charged for the click by Google and Google shares the money with you. You don’t have to worry about billing a load of different companies or anything else: this is all done for you as part of the AdSense service.

That much is fairly straightforward and good news.

But the really clever thing about AdSense is that the ads you see on your site are relevant to your content - automatically. So if you have a web page about mobile phones you’ll see ads about mobile phones on it. If you have a web page about holidays in Tasmania, you’ll see ads for holidays in Tasmania on it. Google’s technology scans your web page and decides what it is about and then searches its database of well over 175,000 advertisers to find the ads that are most suitable for your page.

By making the ads relevant to your site, Google does you two favors: the ads can enhance the overall experience a visitor to your site gets which means they are likely to return, and because the ads are relevant to your visitor, they are likely to get clicked on.

And when they get clicked on, you make money.

To make most money with Google AdSense you need to develop web pages that are about high value topics. In other words, build content on your site that is likely to attract ads that pay highly when clicked because not all ads are worth the same.

In fact some ads pay many dollars a click whereas others only pay a few cents.

The art of maximizing your AdSense income is to understand how to attract high paying ads onto your pages and then drive a lot of traffic to those pages. Once you’ve done that you can look forward to getting paid by Google on a regular basis which makes Google AdSense one of the most attractive affiliate programs on the internet today.

Today the majority of affiliates are looking for compensation when your customers call in their orders by phone. One of the first things they will look for when thinking about joining your affiliate program is to see if you have an order phone number on your site. If you do not offer phone commissions you are most likely losing out on affiliates.

"But I slightly increased my commission rate to make up for not giving phone commissions…"

Who cares? I know I wouldn’t. If I referred 5 customers to Merchant X and all 5 of them called in their orders I get a whopping $0 commission. But if Merchant X paid for phone commissions I would be getting my commissions that I deserve. The bottom line is that affiliates want all of their commissions that they earn, not just some of it.

There really is no excuse for not tracking phone sales other than the fact that you just don’t want to pay affiliates for all of their sales. Setting your site up to track phone sales is not that difficult and shouldn’t take more than a little bit of time.

Here are the simple steps it takes to set up phone tracking:

Contact your affiliate program software/network provider and ask them how to set up for phone tracking. It is just a matter of passing the affiliates ID number onto your website to display next to your phone number. Usually, it is displayed using a javascript code or a short programming script.

Make sure you place the phone sale tracking code next to your phone number on every page that shows your number. Do not just put it on the index page. Customers may get your phone number from any page.

Then train your sales reps or employees that answer the phones to ask for the "reference code" when taking phone orders. The reference code is the affiliate ID number that referred the customer to you. Have them write it down or enter it into the computer so you can manually credit sales to the appropriate affiliates.

Good luck and I hope you decided to track phone sales for your affiliates. They will love you for it. Hey, it is just like getting a raise! :=)
