You can work hard in this affiliate business and still fail. You can spend a lot of money and still fail. It’s a painful thing but it does happen. The good thing, though, is that it doesn’t happen because an affiliate is under some kind of spell, it happens because of certain mistakes that can be fixed.

A lot of affiliates fail because they use banners to refer prospects to their merchants. Banners are very easy to implement. But you know it: Nothing good comes easy.

Check any super affiliate you know and see if they ever refer prospects through a banner ad. People see banners as plain sales pitches. Furthermore, a lot of people hardly ever click through banners these days.

So use in-context text links. It will increase your click-through rate dramatically. It will take a lot more effort to build content in which you’ll embed the text link but it will be well-worth your time and effort.

Another reason is that those affiliates sell instead of preselling. Your work as an affiliate is to build trust and credibility. Your work is to make your visitors and subscribers see you as a trustworthy expert.

Leave the selling to the sales copy. If you do a great preselling job, a lot of folks will not bother going through the sales copy (You know they can be really long).

Lastly, those affiliates often recommend products or services they don’t have first-hand experience of. They have not used them so when they talk about them they cannot really carry the weight of someone who has used them.

Did you know that the average affiliate marketer can have their own eBay website located right on their very own webpage? It’s a Javascript code that eBay provides that allows you to choose products that you want to promote.

The best part is that you get paid commissions by eBay for every person that signs up as a new eBay customer and / or wins an auction. The commissions on auction listings are for the listings fees only so the more expensive the item that you select to target, the more commissions you stand to make.

I did this over the past holiday season and did quite well promoting the Nintendo Wii system that everybody was after. 4. Follow the instructions on this page. eBay provides a User Guide to help walk you through. You’ll need to make sure you enter your Commission Junction affiliate number in order to receive your commissions.

5. Try to provide as many auctions listings as your webpage will esthetically allow so there’s a nice sampling of auctions to choose from.

6. Take the code that you get and place it on your webpage. That’s all you need to do.

You may find you rank better in the search engines if you also provide related content such as articles on this page. For additional revenue you also may want to consider adding Adsense to receive clicks from those who may not be interested in the eBay auctions but are searching on the topic.

Today, right now in fact, you need to make a list of unique and exclusive advantages why the average Joe Schmo should order through YOUR affiliate link and not one of your competitors.

One drawback to using ClickBank is that the links your affiliates post on their websites won’t contain your domain name - so they won’t increase your link popularity.

Once you have your affiliate program set up, you’ll need some promotion tools to offer your affiliates.

Here are some ideas:

=> free eBook - this could be as little as 5 or 10 pages explaining the benefits of your product or service. Make sure it contains some valuable tips and include links to your website that your affiliates can customize with their own affiliate link.

=> your own articles - if you write free articles, encourage your affiliates to use them in their newsletter and on the website, with their affiliate link in the resource box.

=> ezine ads - offer your affiliates 30-word ads they can place in newsletters (preferably ads you have tested and found to be effective)

=> email course - if you have an email mini-course, allow your affiliates to offer it from their website, with their affiliate links

=> popups - give your affiliates a template popup for their website, with instructions on how to install it

=> affiliate kit - put all your affiliate tools into an eBook that your affiliates can download

It is my opinion that the best AFFILIATE PROGRAM ever…is still the AFFILIATE PROGRAM YOU own.

BUT…

For those who are content in promoting other peoples programs…I will share with you a few of my strategies for FREE!

But before I do that, let’s see why most affiliates FAIL in just about any given affiliate program.

Like food products, affiliates have a ‘use by date’ or ‘expiry date’. An average affiliate will expire 30 days after commencing …30 days or less to see if the program is any good and then they move on to the next affiliate program of the month.

If the affiliate doesn’t see a return on there investment in the first two weeks then they will not stay around.

DON’T BECOME A ‘30 DAY WONDER’.

It is time to make an informed decision (in choosing your affiliate program) and sticking with it. If you are one of those netpreneurs who changes affiliate programs often, and not making money from it, you now know why it isn’t working.

So before you go any further, make an informed decision (research) on the program you want to promote.

Now back to those STRATEGIES – TWO STRATEGIES TO BE EXACT.

Strategy One

Very simple and straight forward, KNOW YOUR PRODUCT!

To know your product you need to USE IT, and know EVERYTHING there is to know about it. It’s like going to watch a movie that you really, really enjoyed, you get this sense of excitement to share your great experience with others, well … you need to get that same excitement about your product that only comes about by KNOWING YOUR PRODUCT.

Strategy Two

The Golden Question for all affiliates is ‘How can I create an advantage for me?’

The Answer: Incentive Marketing

If you have never heard of Incentive Marketing, you are sure to have been a victim of it in your every day life.

Think about it… have you ever Up sized your meal at McDonald’s, have you ever brought anything because of the Free Gift or Discount.

Incentive Marketing, Incentive Marketing, Incentive Marketing…

I received two emails this weekend. Both were as a result of autoresponder follow ups these people were receiving from my business.

The first was full of expletives that aren’t worth repeating. The second I shall remember always. It affected me so much that I felt compelled to write this article and share my story with you.

I received an email from a woman who had been receiving follow ups regarding an affiliate program I belong to. This would have been about the twentieth follow up. I have removal instructions at the end of every email, however, it never ceases to surprise me the number of people who don’t remove themselves from the follow up and then abuse me because they are still receiving them. However, that is by the by.

Instead of abuse I got a story. For some reason this woman had written to me to tell me exactly why she can’t take up my offer at this time, though she had read every single email and told me she will keep my details for future reference.

I am honoured that she shared her story with me, though I don’t know how deserving I was of hearing it.

Words cannot express how I felt after reading her story. And it made me realise that the ultimate goal is not the sale. The ultimate goal is to realise that every email address we follow up with belongs to a real person. A person with disappointments in their lives, with tragedies to deal with, a person who has absolutely nothing to give at this time to anything other than their own personal lives.

I mean, who am I to ask for more than this person is able to give?

Am I important in the scheme of things when a family has to deal with suicide in their immediate family?

Do I have any right to say anything at all when a woman is dealing with the trial of her brother’s murderers in two weeks?

What in God’s name could I say? What could I possibly offer a woman going through these kind of personal tragedies – a fr** product, a subscription to my newsletter, an inbox filled with unnecessary products for the next 30 days?

I have no right to offer this woman anything business-wise at all. However, personally I sent her an email telling her I have removed her from my list and then spent the rest of the email sending her every blessing I could possibly imagine, wishing her and her family God by their side through this journey I can’t imagine ever taking.

When I pressed send I realised how focused we must remain on the fact that we, as individuals, are all following our own paths and all going through our own trials and tribulations. Every email is attached to a human being, just as every website is attached to a human business owner.

Sometimes it is important to remember that the bottom line is “the sale” is not the bottom line.
