A merchant or advertiser site is a reflection on your affiliate site, so you need to choose wisely. Some tips: Have a plan. Make a list of the kinds of products and services your site visitors will expect.

Never take for granted the description of the site, and don’t just do a quick look. It’s easy just apply to many programs on an affiliate network site such as Commission Junction and LinkShare, but see for yourself what you think of a merchant and their offerings. Go through prospective sites and their content, if it isn’t just a shopping site. Does the site have the same point of view as your site visitors?

Is the site high quality? Good images and descriptions of the products or services? Is the selection or range of products good? Use the shopping cart and take a purchase almost to completion. Was it easy? If the product or service appears to be important to your site visitors, buy one.

See how the fulfillment experience is, and how the company interests with you, a customer in your site visitor’s shoes. Do the products duplicate those of a vendor you already have a relationship with? Be sure you are adding value, not clutter or dilution. Remember a merchant will want to see a certain amount of sales from you in order to continue a relationship with you.

Are there sites you would like to have a relationship with that don’t appear to have affiliate relationships. If they’re important, contact them, market yourself, and propose a relationship. This adds tremendous value to your site by giving your site visitors something they would be unlikely to get elsewhere.

Affiliate marketing is the easiest way for the aspiring new marketer to make a few bucks and learn to generate profits.

It eliminates (or at least pushes back) the need for your own product or service, and allows you to experience first hand a better way to make an honest buck.

However, I’m seeing far too many people making the same mistakes.

So let’s take a minute here to go over five basic things you need if you’re going to make affiliate marketing pay off.

1. Your Own Domain Name

Face it. If you’re using space on a free host, it just doesn’t look very professional. If you’re selling marketing products, it looks really bad. How good could the product be if YOU are using it and can’t afford your own domain? Think about it.

2. Lead Capture & Followup

Many affiliate programs try to tell you things like: "You don’t need your own website. Just send traffic through your affiliate link and you will earn profits on sales."

Although this is true to some degree, if you don’t have your own domain you are leaving money on the table.

It is possible to make sales by linking directly from your advertising to your affiliate partner. I know, I’ve done it. However, Most of the visitors don’t buy. What about them?

If you route your advertising through your own domain you can easily capture your visitor’s contact information. This allows you the luxury of keeping your affiliate links in front of them for an extended period of time.

That beats a one shot deal any day of the week.

3. A Niche Market

A HUGE problem that I’ve seen (for way too long) is that a new guy/gal enters the arena and buys a marketing course or ebook. Once they reach the end of the book, the "guru" conveniently drops in a little info about making tons of cash promoting their products.

At this point… it all goes sour. The naive young hopeful builds (you guessed it) ANOTHER marketing site.

Look. The competition is extremely tough in this field. There are just too many sites to compete with. To make matters worse… you are going head to head with some of the best in the business.

Find something different. Look first to your own interests. Check the market and explore related affiliate programs. Look around and see what others are doing. Don’t copy their sites, content, etc. Just get a few ideas, and take notes.

Then come up with…

4. Your Own Unique Angle

Yes, you can sell the same ol’ thing in the same ol’ way that everyone else does. You can also mix in a little personality, make your site interesting and watch your sales skyrocket above the others.

The web is an extremely interesting place. Millions of people rush home from work and turn on their PC as soon as they walk through the door. I’m reasonably sure they don’t do this just to see the same thing they looked at yesterday.

Dare to be different.

Which brings us to…

5. Your Own Sales Material

When you join an affiliate program, you are usually provided at least a little bit of advertising material. Program managers do this to get you started. It’s an attempt to grow their own business by making it as easy as possible for you to make a buck or two.

Many affiliate programs have thousands of affiliates. When you log into your affiliate area and find two solo ads, well, you have to wonder how many times they’ve been used.

Ever open an email, read the first couple lines, say "seen it" and delete it? I have.

Create your own unique ads and graphics for your affiliate links and step away from the crowd.

Ok, the evidence is in. How do you plea? Guilty or not?

I’ve made each and every one of these mistakes myself. It’s OK. It happens to the best of us. Now that you know there’s a better way. What are you going to do with it?

6. The Bonus Point

You really should be tracking your ads. If you are not using an ad tracker you are losing money. Track all campaigns. Eliminate the ones that are not working and focus on the ones that put money in your pocket.

Promoting affiliate programs is the least costly and least stressful of all types of home Internet businesses and makes an excellent starting point for Internet marketing novices. It is also one of the best ways to earn revenue from your web site if you don’t have a product of your own to sell. In fact, there are some ’super affiliates’ out there that make their living online doing nothing but promoting other online merchant’s products or services through affiliate programs.

So, just what is an affiliate program? An affiliate is someone who partners with another online merchant to help drive targeted business to that merchant’s web site in order to increase sales. An affiliate program is an inexpensive marketing strategy used by an online merchant in which a monetary incentive is offered to webmasters (affiliates) to drive traffic to that merchant’s web site. The monetary incentive is usually in the form of a percentage-based commission or a fixed dollar amount. Affiliate programs are sometimes referred to as associate programs or referral programs. Affiliates are also referred to as publishers in many cases.

Sponsoring an affiliate program makes sense for an online merchant because it helps to

  • Increase online exposure
  • Increase traffic leading to greater sales
  • Generate more targeted leads

For an Internet entrepreneur there are many more reasons it makes sense to start an Internet affiliate business. Here are just some of them:

  • Low cost set-up
  • Affiliate programs are free to join
  • 24×7 passive income
  • No employees
  • No inventory
  • No order processing
  • No product shipping
  • No merchant account needed
  • Minimal risk
  • Large income potential

There are three general types of affiliate programs:

  • Pay-Per-Sale (PPS) - in which an affiliate earns a commission or fixed dollar amount based on each sale made through links from the affiliate’s site.
  • Pay-Per-Lead (PPL) - in which an affiliate earns a fixed amount every time a customer directed from their web site fills out a survey, requests information, joins a program, etc.
  • Pay-Per-Click (PPC) - in which an affiliate earns a fixed amount every time a potential customer clicks on a link from the affiliate’s site to the merchant’s site.

Once you are affiliated with a merchant, you may place their ad(s) on your web site. When a customer clicks on one of these ads and is taken to the merchant’s online store, if they then make a purchase, fill out a survey, etc., you get a commission for that sale or referral based on the merchant’s payout structure.

The ‘million dollar’ question that I had when I first started, and that you may be wondering about right now, is "How does the merchant know that the sale/referral came from my site?"

When you join an affiliate program, you are assigned a tracking number or code, usually referred to as an affiliate ID. This ID is unique only to you. When you create a link from an ad on your web site, you simply include this ID in the link.

Once a customer clicks on your link, a tracking cookie with your affiliate ID is placed on the customer’s computer. If that customer then makes a purchase, the tracking cookie will identify them to the merchant as being referred from your web site. Depending on the affiliate program, the tracking cookie may be valid for just that one visit, up to a lifetime for that customer.

Most merchants realize that a customer may not make a purchase during the same visit in which they were directed from an affiliate site. As an incentive to the affiliate, if a customer returns directly to the merchant site within the time specified by the cookie duration and makes a purchase, the affliate will still get credit for the sale.

While a normal link to a page that is selling product ‘abc’ at merchant ‘XYZ’ may look like:

http://www.xyz.com/products/abc.html

Your affiliate link may look something like:

http://www.xyz.com/product.asp? PID=1234567&AID=9876

where your affiliate ID is ‘9876′ and the product ID or SKU for item abc is ‘1234567′.

This example is a hypothetical link to a specific product or product page. Most merchants also permit you to link to their home page, or any other page on their web site. Most of the ads you will place on your site are in the form of banners, text ads, images or text/image combinations. Many merchants also supply you with more advanced linking options such as data feeds, storefronts, virtual stores, search boxes, and the like.

If you’re contemplating starting a home internet business, then promoting affiliate programs is the best way to test the waters. Affiliate marketing is a proven win-win-win scenario for online merchants, internet marketers, and consumers alike.

Affiliate marketing is exploding on the Internet.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon. And for good reason. Affiliate marketing is the quickest way to get started with a home based online business. But, while it’s the quickest, it can also be the most demanding.

Again, for good reason. Because there are so many people involved with affiliate marketing today there is a lot more competition for web site visitors. But, anyone can create an incredible online business with affiliate programs if they follow seven simple affiliate marketing tips

Affiliate tip #1 Preselling must be your top priority

When a new client comes to me for help with advertising the products they are affiliated with, I begin with this first tip everytime. This is where everything else begins. Preselling is basically "warming up" your visitor to click to the merchant site and want to buy something.

This must be your top priority.

For example, let’s say you have a great auto accessory site that has a bunch of links to several car part merchants where you make a pretty good commission for every sale made through your affiliate links. You receive ok traffic from Adwords, ezine ads, link exchanges, etc., but not really a lot of sales. Sound familiar?

The problem with this type of "put up the links and wait" approach is that you are wasting, and losing, a ton of money. Those people that are visiting your site are leaving, without buying, and probably not coming back. Unless you spend more money on advertising to get them there.

Preselling takes the initiative in providing the site visitor what they want. After all, that’s why they visited your site in the first place. To find something they want.

Ken Evoy has written "the" resource on preselling called, "Make Your Content Presell" (http://mycps.sitesell.com/glimmersales.html) that provides you with all the step by step information you’ll ever need to tackle preselling.

Affiliate Tip #2 An ezine follows on the heals of preselling

Preselling is the top priority of any affiliate business, but having a weekly or monthly ezine is immediately behind it.

An ezine is your way to keep in touch with the website visitors that have taken an interest in your site, but haven’t made the decision to buy yet. This helps you build a stronger relationship with them by continuing to show them that you are the place to find relevant information.

Affiliate marketing depends on low cost advertising strategies to keep it profitable. A weekly newsletter is the ultimate in keeping costs low.

Affiliate Tip #3 Be a content provider

This tip is a result of the first two. Affiliate marketing riches is built on content. Putting up banners and a ton of links on a page just doesn’t work anymore. Google Adsense has really made the fact that content is the most important advertising strategy really stand out.

Your daily tasks should be centered on the thought of content. Articles, product reviews, interviews, how-to’s, short manuals, ebooks, free reports, and the list goes on and on. Take these articles, reviews, and how-to’s and syndicate them everywhere you can find withing your particular niche (topic).

And not just any type of content. Relevant, up to date, and informative content.

Let’s use the car accessory example again. Each page should center in on one different topic to presell one different item or multiple items that are very closely related. Several how-to articles on how to install different accessories and reviews on separate types of seat covers, car stereos, tires, bolt-ons… whatever, should dominate those pages.

This means that people will be finding what they are looking for… content. That makes them happy, which in turn creates buyers.

Affiiate Tip #4 Link up with others

A byproduct of all the content you will be providing on a consistent basis is that other people will love to link with you. This is something you, as an affiliate wanting to keep costs low, will want to be aggressive with. It’s a win-win situation for them and you.

Search engines love content, thus will rank you higher. Other potential linking partners, within your niche (topic) will want to be a part of that. This does two things…

From the view point of your site visitor, it shows you as the "expert" because other people are linking to you, and

you also receive traffic from the sites you link to that wouldn’t have found you any other way.

Win-win. A great way to find linking partners is with Phil Tanney’s free service Links-for-you (http://www.links-for-you). They deliver willing link partners to you without you having to search for them.

Affilite tips #5 Multiply yourself

Now that you have started one site dealing with a specific topic, do it again. And again. And again. And, well you get the picture. Why do this?

One of my clients recently signed up for my Power Niche Package (http://www.guaranteed-ads.com/nichepackage.html) wanted to know why I provide content for a full year. I told them because they just can’t stop with one site to be successful.

Basically, affiliate marketing is a numbers game. The more traffic coming to multiple websites, full of preselling content, means successful marketing. To take advantage of the highest number of traffic, you need to set up multiple web sites on different niches.

Affiliate tip #6 Be creative and test

I love being creative, taking a risk, doing something different than everyone else. That means that my affiliate sites never get stale. And I test everything to see what works and what doesn’t.

Success can be as simple as where you put your Adsense ad block on your site. Recently people have been experimenting with putting graphics directly above the small blocks. Income from these ads went way up. It worked.

I, myself, like Affiliate Sensor (http://www.affiliatesensor.com/?u=glimmers2) as an alternative to Adsense. I tested it out on a few different high traffic sites to see what would bring in better income. One site with Affiliate Sensor, the other with Adsense.

It was split. One site, a golf site, performed much better with Affiliate Sensor and the other, a home audio site, had greater response with the Adsense ads. Diversity makes for a healthy, growing, and profitable business.

Be creative with your content also. Test to see which page headings work best, which products people are clicking on the most, where to place our affiliate links within the content, and whether graphic ads or text ads work best.

Don’t get stale.

Affiliate tip #7 Always be re-evaluating

Affiliate marketing is powerful, if you stay on top of it. You should never stop researching the "hottest" markets, what people are looking for, what kind of information do people need.

Again, for example, with the car accessory site, you should be always on the lookout for new merchants, new products, and products are selling now. What time of year is it? Winter would bring different needs for content. What turbo boost are people looking for the most? This stuff changes all the time and the successful affiliate has content ready almost immediately.

Affiliate marketing is an awesome way to get started with an online business. You can even make it your only online business, many people do just that. But, it takes passion, determination, and following these seven tips.

Tim Bossie is an experienced affiliate marketer who successfully operates 75 income producing affiliate sites and also provides other affiliates with the best possible affiliate services. Over the past years, web hosting has grown bigger than it used to be. With more companies getting into this business and finding the many benefits it can give them, the demand for web hosting has never been higher. These seem to be the trend of today.

38 million people have put up their very first websites online this year 2005 alone. It is estimated that by 2008, the internet sales industry will top then dollar bank. And to think, majority of those sites will be offering different affiliate programs for people to choose and participate into.

This only means one thing. It is easier now to find the right web host for your application. The possibility of quality web hosting companies separating themselves from the rest of the industry is anticipated. If this is done, the unprofessional and incompetent ones will suffer.

Support will be the number one consideration for people when choosing a web host. It will be obvious that traditional advertising will become less and less effective. Most people would rather opt for the web host based on things that they see and hear. Also based on the recommendations by those who have tried them and have proved to be a successful.

This is a great opportunity for web hosting affiliates and resellers alike. There would hundreds of web hosting and programs to choose from that the difficulty in finding the right one for them is not a problem anymore.

How does one become a successful affiliate in the niche markets using web hosting?

If you think about it, everyone who needs a website needs a web hosting company to host it for them. As of now, there is really no leading hosting industry so most people choose hosts based from recommendations. Usually, they get it from the ones that have already availed of a web hosting services.

With the many hosts offering affiliate programs, there is the tendency to find the one which you think will work best for you. Think of the product you will be promoting. Pattern them to the site and see if they are catering to the same things as you are.

When you have been with one host for quite some time and seem not to be making much despite all your effort, leave that one and look for another. There is no use in trying to stick to one when you would be before off in another one. Things will only have to get better from there because you already have been in worst situations.

Try this out. If you are quite happy and satisfied with your web host, try to see if they are offering an affiliate program you can participate on. Instead of you paying them, why not make it the other way around; them paying you. The process can be as easy as putting a small “powered by” or “hosted by” link at the bottom of your page and you are already in an affiliate business.

Why choose paying for your for your web hosting when you do not have to? Try to get paid by letting people know you like your web host.

Always remember that when choosing a web host, choose the one that is known for its fantastic customer support. There are also many hosting affiliate programs. Residual affiliate program is also being hosted. This is the program wherein you get paid a percentage every month for a client that you refer. This can allow you to have a steady source of income. With perseverance, you can even be quite successful in this field.

There are a lot of niche markets out there just waiting for the right affiliate to penetrate to them and make that dollars dream come true. Knowing which one to get into is being confident enough of your potentials and the good results you will be getting.

Web hosting is just one affiliate market you could try out and make some good and continuous income. Just remember that to be successful on your endeavor also means that time, effort and patience is needed.

Nobody has invented the perfect affiliate market yet. But some people do know how to make it big in this kind of market. It is just knowing your kind of market and making the earnings there.

Owning a website can and should be a very profitable endeavor. A good way to make money online is by selling ebooks and software with Master Resale Rights. Below are the top reasons Master resale rights are a viable web business solution, and why it needs to be something every web marketer should consider.

1. You don’t have to make up any content. This is perhaps the single most important reason Master Resale Rights are a good web business decision. Every web business needs a product to sell, and with master resale rights, you do not have to create anything. All of the content is done for you. You now have a ready made product that you can sell for any price you want.**

**Please note: Most resale rights packages give you free control over pricing, however some packages have a minimum package price. This is necessary as to not undervalue the package itself. As a business owner, it is important to have a competitive price, but you do not want to make the price so low that it makes the package appear to be worthless. Placing minimum prices helps to keep the package value high so it does not become "just another junk eBook with resale rights." Please try to adhere to the pricing set by the original content creators.

2. It can be completely automated with no warehousing. Because the products you are selling are electronic, there are no physical goods to move or store. This makes storage and delivery completely free, as everything can be delivered through email, or through a download on your website. You can even set your business on "autopilot", so once a purchase is made, the customer is automatically delivered the link or email. This makes each transaction hands-free, and allows you to spend your time where it is needed most. (Like with your family/friends/dog/xbox.)

3. Most ebooks and software with Master Resale Rights have a pre-made sales page. This alone could save you hours of frustration. Every webmaster knows creating a good sales page is a difficult task, but most resale rights packages have already done this for you. Most of the sales pages are written by professionals and are very well done. Because of this, most do not require any changes however, you do have the option of editing the sales page to your liking if you feel it needs some touch ups to really shine.

4. You keep 100% of all profits earned. Unlike affiliate programs where you get only a percentage of each sale, with master resale rights you get to keep all of your profits. You only pay a one time fee to acquire the product and resale rights, then you will never have to pay another dime again. There are no royalties or other fees to pay either. Why join an affiliate program that gives only 30% commissions, when you can have 100% of all profits made by your site with the same amount of effort?

5. You can repackage your Master Resale Rights products. You can create an entirely unique, "brand new" package by combining 2 or more ebooks together to create a resale rights package that is exclusive to you and your site. This gives you an advantage over every other site selling similar products, by making your packages unique. This uniqueness gives your package more value, making the customer more likely to purchase from you.

As you can see, master resale rights are a very profitable business solution for any web business, or it can be a valuable addition to any existing web site looking to branch out to improve its bottom line. With billions of dollars in annual sales of ebooks, software, and information products, there is not an easier way to make money from an already popular trend in online marketing.

Noah Ulrich is webmaster of Informativeresources.com. His site maintains top rankings in all major search engines, and has maintained an online presence since 2001. His site provides top quality resale rights, guaranteed signups, and guaranteed web traffic to businesses worldwide.

Ask questions first before you join an affiliate program. Do a little research about the choices of program that you intend to join into. Get some answers because they will be the deciding point of what you will be achieving later on.

Will it cost you anything to join? Most affiliate programs being offered today are absolutely free of charge. So why settle for those that charge you some dollars before joining.

When do they issue the commission checks? Every program is different. Some issue their checks once a month, every quarter, etc. Select the one that is suited to your payment time choice. Many affiliate programs are setting a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for their checks to be issued.

What is the hit per sale ratio? This is the average number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale based on all affiliate statistics. This factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from the sale.

How are referrals from an affiliate’s site tracked and for how long do they remain in the system? You need to be confident on the program enough to track those people you refer from your site. This is the only way that you can credit for a sale. The period of time that those people stay in the system is also important. This is because some visitors do not buy initially but may want to return later to make the purchase. Know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done some months from a certain day.

What are the kinds of affiliate stats available? Your choice of affiliate program should be capable of offering detailed stats. They should be available online anytime you decide to check them out. Constantly checking your individual stats is important to know how many impressions, hits and sales are already generated from your site. Impressions are the number of times the banner or text link was viewed by a visitor of your site. A hit is the one clicking on the banner or text links.

Does the affiliate program also pay for the hits and impressions besides the commissions on sales? It is important that impressions and hits are also paid, as this will add to the earnings you get from the sales commission. This is especially important if the program you are in offers low sales to be able to hit ratio.

Who is the online retailer? Find out whom you are doing business with to know if it is really a solid company. Know the products they are selling and the average amount they are achieving. The more you know about the retailer offering you the affiliate program, the easier it will be for you to know if that program is really for you and your site.

Is the affiliate a one tier or two tier program? A single tier program pays you only for the business you yourself have generated. A two tier program pays you for the business, plus it also pays you a commission on the on the sales generated by any affiliate you sponsor in your program. Some two-tier programs are even paying small fees on each new affiliate you sponsor. More like a recruitment fee.

Lastly, what is the amount of commission paid? 5% - 20% is the commission paid by most programs. .01% - .05% is the amount paid for each hit. If you find a program that also pays for impressions, the amount paid is not much at all. As you can see from the figures, you will now understand why the average sales amount and hit to sale ratio is important.

These are just some of the questions that needed answering first before you enter into an affiliate program. You should be familiar with the many important aspects that your chosen program should have before incorporating them into your website. Try to ask your affiliate program choices these questions. These can help you select the right program for you site from among the many available.

Affiliate marketing is still one of the biggest ways anyone can make a small fortune on the internet today. This article will cover one of the affiliate tactics that can be used to generate huge affiliate profits.

Creating and running your own newsletter/ezine is a great way to generate affiliate traffic for the program you are promoting.

The first step is to find a good autoresponder script that can automate your newsletter. A great place to look for a script like this is on HotScripts.com. There are a ton of free scripts that you can download and install into your website. With an autoresponder script you can input all your future emails to subscribers and date them out. This makes the entire process totally automated so you can focus your time and energy on actually getting subscribers.

Once you have your autoresponder set up and ready to go. You need to convince people to sign up for your newsletter. Depending on the product you are promoting as an affiliate, you will want to find a free ebook or report that you can offer your subscribers. Contact the owner of the affiliate program you are promoting and ask them if they have anything that you can use.

Once you have a free product you can offer. Create an captivating webpage describing your free offer. At the end of the page, simply ask them to subscribe to your newsletter to receive the free ebook. A great example of this idea can be seen at: http://www.ebaybusiness.net/free-ebook.html

Once they have subscribed and validated their email, the first email you send them should be the free gift. Now that they are subscribers, you can send them information pertaining to the subject you are promoting. Basically, just supplement your informative newsletter with your affiliate offer and this should continually drive traffic to the affiliate offer you are promoting.

This is a great tool because the longer you run your newsletter, the more subscribers you have. Eventually you can build a huge subscriber base that you can use to promote your future offers to as well. If you’re providing them with good content and articles, these subscribers will have some trust with you and are more likely to be open to any future offers you might pass along to them.

The ideal world of affiliate marketing does not require having your own website, dealing with customers, refunds, product development and maintenance. This is one of the easiest ways of launching into an online business and earning more profits.

Assuming you are already into an affiliate program, what would be the next thing you would want to do? Double, or even triple, your commissions, right? How do you do that?

Here are some powerful tips on how to boost your affiliate program commissions overnight.

1. Know the best program and products to promote. Obviously, you would want to promote a program that will enable you to achieve the greatest profits in the shortest possible time.

There are several factors to consider in selecting such a program. Choose the ones that have a generous commission structure. Have products that fit in with your target audience. And that has a solid track record of paying their affiliate easily and on time. If you cannot seem to increase your investments, dump that program and keep looking for better ones.

There are thousands of affiliate programs online which gives you the reason to be picky. You may want to select the best to avoid losing your advertising dollars.

Write free reports or short ebooks to distribute from your site. There is a great possibility that you are competing with other affiliates that are promoting the same program. If you start writing short report related to the product you are promoting, you will be able to distinguish yourself from the other affiliates.

In the reports, provide some valuable information for free. If possible, add some recommendations about the products. With ebooks, you get credibility. Customers will see that in you and they will be enticed to try out what you are offering.

2. Collect and save the email addresses of those who download your free ebooks. It is a known fact that people do not make a purchase on the first solicitation. You may want to send out your message more than six times to make a sale.

This is the simple reason why you should collect the contact information of those who downloaded your reports and ebooks. You can make follow-ups on these contacts to remind them to make a purchase from you.

Get the contact information of a prospect before sending them to the vendor’s website. Keep in mind that you are providing free advertisement for the product owners. You get paid only when you make a sale. If you send prospects directly to the vendors, chances are they would be lost to you forever.

But when you get their names, you can always send other marketing messages to them to be able to earn an ongoing commission instead of a one-time sale only.

Publish an online newsletter or Ezine. It is always best to recommend a product to someone you know than to sell to a stranger. This is the purpose behind publishing your own newsletter. This also allows you to develop a relationship based on trust with your subscribers.

This strategy is a delicate balance between providing useful information with a sales pitch. If you continue to write informative editorials you will be able to build a sense of reciprocity in your readers that may lead them to support you by buying your products.

3. Ask for higher than normal commission from merchants. If you are already successful with a particular promotion, you should try and approach the merchant and negotiate a percentage commission for your sales.

If the merchant is smart, he or she will likely grant your request rather than lose a valuable asset in you. Keep in mind that you are a zero-risk investment to your merchant; so do not be shy about requesting for addition in your commissions. Just try to be reasonable about it.

Write strong Pay Per Click ads. PPC search engine is the most effective means of advertising online. As an affiliate, you can make a small income just by managing PPC campaigns such as Google AdWords and Overture. Then you should try and monitor them to see which ads are more effective and which ones to dispose of.

Try out these strategies and see the difference it can make to your commission checks in the shortest of time.

Affiliate programs enable businesses to generate a lot traffic and consequently boost sales through promotion by third party individuals or sites. It is a cost-effective way to advertise your products and services as you dominantly pay for only efforts that turn into sales.

Setting up an affiliate system can be an easy or overwhelming task depending on how many affiliates you want to recruit, your payment policy, availability of time and the kind of product or service offered.

When it comes to affiliate systems, there are two options for a business : you can outsource the entire system or run your own customised affiliate system on your web host. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

If you have a relatively small amount of affiliates to deal with, then you can run your own affiliate software but if you are going to recruit an unspecified or a large number of affiliates, then you may need to outsource. The reason is, you will find it easy to deal with a huge number of sign ups, track payments, manage banners, monitor clicks, among others. The shortcoming is that you will have to pay flat fees or a percentage of sales generated to the company maintaining your system. A self-managed affiliate system will work well if you have a small number of recruits , have the time to answer queries and send out a few checks each month.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF AFFILIATES

There are several types of affiliate programs you can choose from. There is the pay per sale whereby an individual is paid only if a sale is generated from that affiliate’s link. It’s certainly the least attractive to people unless the product or service is in high demand and the most profitable for businesses. Another type is the pay-per-lead whereby you pay for traffic only. Here the affiliate is paid only if a visitor is generated from the affiliate site. Its attractive to affiliates but costly to website owners because of the possibility of non-converting visits. This type is good for high-sales producing sites as you can pay affiliates from sales generated. Another option is the pay-per-click in which case you only pay if your link is clicked. If you have a site which has a high conversion rate , then this option is ideal for you.

You can also opt for the tiered system. With single tiers, your affiliates receive a single payment whenever someone refers a client to you and it is ideal for less popular products or services or when you are starting up. In a two-tier programs, an affiliate can receive a percentage of sales generated by an affiliate who signs up from his site and it is profitable for websites with high conversion rates. A variant of this, the multi-tier, offers an affiliate residual income from sub-affiliates who sign up under him and indefinitely. This type is good if you have high sales and can support perpetual payments.

CONSIDERATIONS

An important consideration in setting up an affiliate is whether you will approve affiliates manually or automatically. It may be recommendable to start an affiliate program with your established customer sites and progress to new ones. You may have to control the affiliates if you are dealing with pay per click as the quality of visitors will be a factor in sales generation. Manually reviewing also enables you to judge the website or individual affiliates to see if he befits your company status (for example is the site objectionable?) or likely to spam which case may bring you trouble.

If you use your own affiliate system, then one of your biggest challenge would be how to pay affiliates a percentage of what you receive from customers. In this regard, you can rely on a software such as Affiliateshop(www.affiliateshop.com) to track and manage recurring commissions.

CONCLUSION

So depending on your needs, you can go for an outsourced affiliate system or a self-run type. You may go for an outsourced affiliate system such as Commission Junction(www.cj.com) or Linkshare(www.linkshare.com) if you anticipate huge transactions. If you would require credit card processing such an affiliate involving downloadable products like ebooks, then clickbank(www.clickbank.com) may be a good option.

If you intend to run your own affiliate system, then a popular choice is AssocTRAC which comes with a wide array of support.
