By now most sites have updated and enhanced content in order to appeal to search engines, and Google in particular. Optimized keywords and key phrases will increase the popularity of your links and at some point Google will spider your site if it is optimized. Google’s methodology is constantly second-guessed, but the algorithms are top secret and ever-changing. The Google bot may spider any part of your site during a visit, so it’s in your best interest to optimize your site overall with quality content, blogs and easy navigation. Because Google’s bot searches so many pages, may of which are unchanged or inactive, getting your entire site spidered may take quite some time.

To get your site spidered more quickly and efficiently, you can submit it to Google Sitemaps. Google offers a sitemap generator that you can use to provide them additional information on your site. This is particularly important when your site is one where all pages are not connected with traditional links, such as those with dynamically created pages. Once your site has been spidered, it is added to the Google index, and the spider will return at some point. If you have made changes to your site, such as adding pages or a significant amount of keyworded content, it would be wise to submit an update to Google Sitemaps

Google provides their Sitemaps service free of charge in an effort to provide more current information in their index. By collaborating with webmasters it has produced a win-win in terms of better and more current search information, one that site managers should take advantage of.

How to Substantially Supplement Your Income with Online Affiliate Programs

Hundreds, if not thousands of online marketers are searching for ways to catapult their site’s earning potential into higher brackets. It’s easy to get confused by all of the hype and the multitude of affiliate programs being offered since it seems there are new programs cropping up all over the internet.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but the majority of these affiliate opportunities will never make you a dime. Your promotion and diverting of your heard earned web traffic to these affiliates will probably end in a "no sale" ninety nine percent of the time.

Why is This?

Most affiliate programs out there are asking you to promote products that quite simply are not set up to effectively convert sales. In other words, you are sending your traffic away to sites that don’t contain a high enough caliber of advertising copy and conusmer incentive to order, so the prospects move on to other areas of the internet.

What this results in for webmasters setting out into the world of affiliate marketing is disappointment and disillusionment with affiliate product promotion. Why would they want to continue to waste their precious cyberspace promoting something that does not make them any additional income?

What you should know, is that there are some effective affiliate programs out there that have generous payouts, and actually work very hard to convert that customer that you sent to them so generously. These exceptional programs have higher conversion rates and payouts that are well worth your time.

This way, you are monetizing your website’s potential by sending traffic that probably would have left your site anyways to another site, AND you’re still making money if they buy a product or service. The concept of affiliate marketing is a win/win situation, especially when it is utilized properly and when the affiliate programs chosen are reputable and effective.

Technical optimization refers to all the factors related to the technical details of your website, and how they affect the ranking of your site in search engines. They are important because they give valuable information to the spider that crawls your site, and ultimately decides how close to the top of a search you are placed. And this visibility directly impacts the traffic and profitability of your website.

Optimizing includes:

Keywords in your URL (optimal, but not always possible)

Keyword density of about 8% per page

Key phrases that relate to the keywords of very page

Keywords in titles and headings

Bold and capitalized words

Keywords in the first and last sentences of each page

Keywords and secondary keyword optimization on the site’s home page

Logical linking of pages within the site

Backlinks and reciprocal links with complementary high quality sites

Provision of sitemaps to Google, and updating them after site modifications

Making the most of technical optimization is important, but it is only the first step in creating a solid, useful site that earns repeat visits from its target market. Other factors involved include:

Focusing the scope of the site to address the needs of a particular niche

Creating a sense of community

Providing useful information

Introducing new concepts or trends

Offering advice

Giving access to experts

Solving problems

Providing a forum for the exchange of ideas

Providing links to focused research and other resources

Making Money From Advertising

If you look at many websites, you will probably notice that there are banner advertisements displayed on most pages. If you are a newcomer to the scene, you might think that you must either be a company or that your site must be famous before you can get advertisers, just as it is the case in hardcopy publications.

In reality, anyone with a website can get advertisers. While it is true that if your site is well-known, you may get companies contacting you to offer to advertise on your site, you can get advertising revenue even if you are just starting out and your site is relatively unknown.

The way to do this is to join as an "affiliate" of various sites, either directly, or through an affiliate network. An affiliate network is simply an intermediary where you can select from a variety of advertisers.

Payment Schemes

Before joining any program, you should probably be aware of the different payment schemes available.

Pay Per Impression

Here, you are paid according to the number of times the advertiser’s banner is displayed on your site. The amount you earn is typically calculated based on the number of thousand impressions of the banner (impressions = number of times the banner is displayed), often abbreviated CPM (cost per thousand, with the M being the Latin numeral for thousand). That is, $5 CPM means that you get paid $5 for 1,000 displays of the banner. In general, the amount paid is usually small, but it is easy to earn since everytime a visitor loads the page, you earn. This is known as a "high conversion rate". Needless to say, this method will allow you to automatically earn more if your site attracts a lot of visitors.

Pay Per Click

When you are paid per click, you are only paid when visitors click the advertiser’s banner on your site. The amount paid is usually higher than the pay per impression scheme. Whether you get a high conversion rate here depends on the banner (whether it attracts people to click it), although in general, it has a higher conversion rate than the pay per sale method. A high traffic site will probably enjoy a higher click rate than a lower traffic site, although you will probably get better results if your banners are carefully selected to suit the target audience of your site.

Pay Per Sale or Lead

While you will probably get the highest payment rates with this method, it has the lowest conversion rate of the three schemes. You will only earn if your visitors click through the banner and either purchase an item from the advertiser or take some other prescribed action (eg, sign up for a service). Like the Pay Per Click method, you get much better results if you carefully select your advertisers to suit the target audience of your site.

In general, to avoid wasting resources in issuing cheques for very small amounts, advertisers will usually accrue the amount owing to you until it reaches a certain level (such as $25) before they pay you.

Where to Find Affiliate Programs

To join an affiliate network or program, simply go to the site and complete their online application form. Some programs will give you instant approval while others require a human to check out your application before it is approved. Once it is approved, you’ll be given some HTML code which you can cut and paste into your web page. Note that some affiliate networks and programs will not accept you unless you have a domain name.

How To Choose An Affiliate Program

How should you choose an affiliate program? My suggestion is not to choose a program according to the payment scheme, but rather according to the kind of people who are likely to visit your website. For example, if you are targeting parents on your site, links to affiliates with educational software, books and the like may generate more revenue than banners that link to web hosting companies. The most important rule of choosing an affiliate program is to know your target audience.

Another point to consider is whether you really want to join every single affiliate program that comes your way. Some studies suggest that sites that make the most money from affiliate programs are affiliates of only a small handful of programs. Furthermore, concentrating your advertisements from one network may allow you to be paid faster. If you advertise for hundreds of different affiliate networks on your site, you may wind up earning only (say) a few dollars per month from each network. If your advertiser’s minimum payment amount is higher than what you can earn each month, it may take you a long time before you accrue enough to be paid.

On the other hand, that formula does not necessarily hold true for every site (or every page on your site, for that matter). For example, if your site has a particular theme, and an affiliate network only supports one or two suitable advertisers, you might want to sign up for a few affiliate networks so as to get a greater number of relevant advertisers. After all, advertisements that are relevant to your audience are more likely to be taken up than general advertisements. (What’s the point of putting banners from only one affiliate if nobody is going to click them?)

While the web was once a way for advertisers to promote national brands and sell regardless of geography, the move to localization has begun. In the past, local advertisers, by virtue of their market size, tended to focus primarily on local yellow pages and local or regional newspapers. Now, specialty retailers, department stores, doctors and dentists, realtors, insurance agencies and financial services providers, such as banks and mortgage companies have significantly increased their spending on the web.

With this comes opportunities for sites that focus on particular geographic areas. A site that provides information on a region (there aren’t usually enough sites for a single town) can begin to monetize their process of local information provision. Local civic and religious organization news, sports schedules, weather, municipal matters, such as road closings and water main flushing, tide charts can be supported by local advertisers, much in the same way that local independent weeklies were supported by advertising in the past, before many were folded into the larger local and regional dailies.

With about 20% of the population moving each year, the demand for content rich local and regional sites, with links or advertising of local businesses should soar. But the time is now, because a local or small regional area can only support one such content site, and the content site, at this point, can only make money as an affiliate in an environment with little competition.

Local businesses will need education about advertising and there may need to be a shift in the party providing affiliate business services. It is likely that the site may need to provide the affiliate linking capabilities, management and tracking, completely transparent to the merchant vendor.

I bought a lot of ebook about affiliate programs or how to make money online. The examples are: get pay for surveys online, data processing online, eBay reselling, Google adwords, affiliate programs, reselling CD roms, rewriting ebooks. All of above programs are great ideas. Great ideas can’t generate any income by themselves unless people use them.

I tried to follow these get-rich-quick programs. I never succeeded as the writers boasted. However, I do make additional income besides my full time job every month.

Every affiliate marketer must have a realistic goal. Don’t quit your job before your program generates income 2 times than your salary. Otherwise, small revenue will discourage you to continue your program. And you will keep finding get-rich-quick programs. You try and quit. That only makes ebook writers rich.

Just be ware of falling for get-rich-quick scams. Those online Get Rich Quick programs will cost you a lot of money from $9.90 to $1000. But 99% of these programs teach you what you already know or can learn them from Internet for free. Do research and find reviews online about the program that you are interested in before spending a penny on it.

Find a good program. Stay with it and work hard. Success is just a matter of time.

Some businesses have brochure content, articles and research that would be valuable resources in a niche website. But it isn’t keyword optimized, and to do so would take more money and time than it took to put together the rest of the site. What can you do?

Get the electronic versions of the material and divide it up into pages of 250 to 350 words. If you only have hard copies, scan the material in, using the editable text option in your scanner’s software.

Divide the text up, using headings and subheadings, into a quicker “web read”.

Link any studies or charts with descriptive links, which do better in search engines and are clicked on more often by readers than generic links. Make sure headings and subheadings are edited so they contain relevant keywords. Read through the text and make some quick substitutions of words – basically changing terms such as “it” “that” and “the product” to more specific words, keywords, as long as the meaning of the document doesn’t change.

Pay attention to the titles on each page, making certain main keywords are included in each of the page titles.

Write highly descriptive keywords in your meta tags for your page descriptions.

Good new content is very important to both search engines and your site visitors. Search engines will spider it and recognize the site as one with deep content. With original content you will keep your visitors on your site longer, and they’ll be more likely to return.

Affiliate marketers and webmasters are gearing up for the holiday season. Tips from Spreadshirt’s affiliate marketing manager.

It’s November, leaves are turning, nights are colder and there’s that particular smell of marketing in the air. It’s making its way onto the Internet.

Already the big players: Amazon, Ebay, Marks & Spencers have rolled out Christmas affiliate campaigns and bonuses. Slowly, even the smaller websites: personal sites, blogs, small company pages are looking to get involved in seasonal affiliate marketing.

Following online newspaper formats, operators are finding they can make a profit with little effort. Keyword ads campaigns from Google and Yahoo are neat, clean services that work. Partially due to their relevance - the ads that show up are driven by the content of the page - but also a subtle layout that takes away from the garish and dated pop-ups.

Another unobtrusive method is the integrated ad. With readers used to seeing adds in all forms of journalism, bloggers in particular can use this medium to introduce ads that readers will see and that can even add an aesthetic element to the page. The fun fashion-bash blog gofugyourself.typepad.com does it well, as does the food site www.101cookbooks.com/. When the ads match the style and topic of the website, they’re not only a means of funds, but provide a valuable service for site visitors.

Affiliate programmes are the small operator’s tool of choice. They serve to link websites to a large pool of companies happy to pay for the chance to advertise on the site. With a variety of setups, owners can get paid for every click made on an advertisement or any purchase made through clicking on an advertisement. There’s a host of European and UK-focused programmes: they collect merchants especially catering to the UK market. The big players offer the most options, and usually sign-up is completely free. Some favourites are: Affiliate Window (www.affiliatewindow.com) Trade Doubler www.tradedoubler.com and Commission Junction (www.cj.com).

What to look for in advertising? Especially for the Christmas season, sites offering gift options are attractive. Always popular are food and alcohol sites.. In the season of giving, gift-able items in the £20-50 price range can add spark to the site with seasonal banners and some extra spending cash. Popular options: wines and spirits from wine.com, decadent chocolates from www.godiva.com or something more personal and unique: photographs and photograph gifts from Shutterfly www.shutterfly.com or customised apparel from Spreadshirt www.spreadshirt.co.uk.

The grassroots, back to the sources, favourite is the net ring. The fantastic sports blog www.ericmcerlain.com/offwingopinion links unto others and has others link unto him. More organised methods include: Webring www.webring.com and RingSurf www.ringsurf.com. The sites link smaller sites in a large directory: it simultaneously boosts online presence and makes less ubiquitous sites easier to find.

All ranges of sites, including one’s that never thought they could be advertisers, are joining the bandwagon. It’s adding to the ever-dynamic world of online marketing, and offering up the promise of payoff for free expression and creativity.

Affiliates who rely solely upon search engines or links to deliver their audience are only considering half the picture. Press releases sent to appropriate media are likely to bring you site visitors you haven’t reached in other ways.

But what should your release highlight? An announcement, a new product, additions or changes to management, new partners, site features or products. Maybe an amazing piece of advice that turned up in a blog and how it changed the sites of many of your visitors.

Once you’ve decided upon the topic, follow these guidelines: Type in a word processing program, but convert it to PDF for distribution Use your company stationery

Center the words, “News Release” at the top

Center the Headline in bold type, larger than the body text, which should be 10 or 12 pt.

Note the press contact’s name, address, email and telephone numbers Begin the body text with “For Immediate Release” of “For Release on___”

Include the date

Paragraph one: The big idea or announcement in a couple of sentences. If it sounds like an advertisement, and you can’t make it into bonafide news, stop here and wait until you do have news.

Paragraph two: Details related to paragraph one, including the benefit or good news

Paragraph three: Additional details if you need them. It’s better to be succinct than too detailed.

Paragraph 4: Information about the company and the website

The end, signified by ###

Most news releases can be sent online to targeted publications, sites and online wire services.

Are you a webmaster who needs funds to keep your website running? Or is your website the only way for you to earn income? Whichever you are, for as long as you are a webmaster or a web publisher and you need cash, affiliate marketing may work well for you. With affiliate marketing, you may get a lot of cash pouring into your bank account easily. And if your website is rich in great contents and you want to earn more profit, why not get into the Google Adsense program as well?

Why Affiliate Marketing?

Well, simply because affiliate marketing is the easiest and probably the best way to earn profits online, unless otherwise you are a businessman and would rather sell your own products online than advertise other businessman’s products on your site. But even online retailers can benefit from affiliate marketing programs, because affiliate marketing actually works for merchants as well as it works for the affiliates.

Affiliate marketing, simply said, is a relationship or agreement made between two websites, with one site being the merchant’s website and the other being the affiliate’s site. In the relationship, the affiliate agrees to let the merchant advertise his products on the affiliate’s site. The merchant, on the other hand, would agree to pay the affiliate in whatever method they have agreed into. This would generally mean easy income for the affiliate, as he would do nothing but place the retailer’s ad on his site. This would also be very beneficial for the merchant, as getting affiliates to advertise their products would be a lot more affordable than hiring an advertising firm to promote their products.

There are a variety of methods on how the merchant would compensate the affiliate for his services, and for the webmaster, these methods simply translates to the method by which he would earn easy cash. Among the more common methods of compensation are the pay-per-click method, the pay-per-lead method, and the pay-per-sale method. The pay-per-click method is the method most preferred by affiliates, for their site’s visitor would only have to visit the advertiser’s site for them to gain money. The other two methods, on the other hand, are better preferred by merchants, as they would only have to compensate you if your visitor becomes one of their registrants or if the visitor would actually buy their products.

Getting much profit on affiliate marketing programs, however, does not depend so much on the compensation method is it does on the traffic generated by your site. A website that can attract more visitors would generally have the greater chance of profiting in affiliate marketing programs.

What about Google Adsense?

Google Adsense is actually some sort of an affiliate marketing program. In Google Adsense, Google act as the intermediary between the affiliates and the merchants. The merchant, or the advertiser, would simply sign up with Google and provide the latter with text ads pertaining to their products. These ads, which is actually a link to the advertiser’s website, would then appear on Google searches as well as on the websites owned by the affiliates, or by those webmasters who have signed up with the Google Adsense program.

While one can find a lot of similarities between Google Adsense and other affiliate marketing programs, you can also see a lot of differences. In Google Adsense, all the webmaster has to do is place a code on his website and Google takes care of the rest. The ads that Google would place on your site would generally be relevant to the content of your site. This would be advantageous both for you and for the advertiser, as the visitors of your site would more or less be actually interested with the products being advertised.

The Google Adsense program compensates the affiliate in a pay-per-click basis. The advertisers would pay Google a certain amount each time their ad on your site is clicked and Google would then forward this amount to you through checks, although only after Google have deducted their share of the amount. Google Adsense checks are usually delivered monthly. Also, the Google Adsense program provides webmasters with a tracking tool that allows you to monitor the earnings you actually get from a certain ad.

So, where do all of these lead us to?

Where else but to profits, profits and even more profits! Affiliate marketing programs and the Google Adsense program simply work, whether you are the merchant or the affiliate. For the merchant’s side, a lot of money can be saved if advertising effort is concentrated on affiliate marketing rather than on dealing with advertising firms. For the webmaster, you can easily gain a lot of profits just by doing what you do best, and that is by creating websites. And if you combine all your profits from both the Google Adsense program and other affiliate marketing programs, it would surely convert to a large amount of cash.
