While affiliate marketing is a great way to earn some extra income, there are several pitfalls you need to watch out for. For as long as people have been earning money, people have been trying to figure out how to earn more by doing less. Now don’t get me wrong if I could sit at home with my family, go on vacations, purchase anything that we desired, all while never having to put in a day’s work. But the fact is real life does not work that way. I heard a really cool quote once, it said "the only place you will find success preceding work, is in the dictionary". The statement holds so true.

Just do a search online for "work form home jobs" or "making money". You will find millions and millions of web sites. Just click on a few. They almost all start off the same. You see a guy standing by some six figure car. The car is in the driveway of some ten thousand square foot house. Then the caption: This Could Be You. They are filled with promises of wealth, houses and cars. You name it. All you have to do is sign up for their program, which of course is the only one of its kind (yeah right) and the world is yours. Give me a break!

The only way to earn a good, reliable, stable, income online is to put in the hard work. You need to do your research before joining any affiliate program. That’s why we have the internet, for finding information. All you need to do is search for the name of an affiliate program that you are interested in plus the word scam. See what comes up. Also join some work at home forums. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

There are a few tell tail signs that a program is most likely a scam. Here are a few things that I always watch out for. If a program will not tell you what their compensation plan is unless you pay to sign up, watch out. Many programs won’t even tell you what you are going to be doing until you buy the 39 dollar kit. There should always be 100% free disclosure. You need to know what you are getting into before you start. Look at it this way. You go on a job interview and they don’t tell you how they will pay you or what you will be doing. Do you take the job? No way.

There needs to be a way to do the program for free. It’s fine if there are different levels of entry. I see it all the time. There should always be a way for you to earn without having to pay the program a cent. You may spend some money on advertising online, but you should not have to pay to market someone else’s products. You shouldn’t even have to buy the products if you don’t want to. You don’t pay your boss to work for him do you?

Every new affiliate is bound to be looking for the top paying affiliate program that they can join to make their fortune.

They usually fail to realize the important truth that the top paying affiliate program really varies from individual to individual because it is entirely based on the quantity of quality traffic that an affiliate can drive in the direction of their affiliate site.

In other words the top paying affiliate program for anybody will entirely depend on their marketing efforts.

This is why the best possible advice any new affiliate can get is to look for a good affiliate program based on a subject or industry that they already understand very well. After that they will need to find an effective marketing strategy that will help them drive the highest quantity of the best quality targeted traffic they can possibly generate to their affiliate web site.

Of course it helps to join affiliate programs that have at the very minimum a two tier system. This means that you will be able to earn from sub-affiliates that you introduce to the top paying affiliate program. Or rather the affiliate program that your marketing strategy will turn into the top paying affiliate program for you.

Dreaming of the big bucks, eh? You want to become an affiliate making money online, passing hapless web surfers into the "checkout lane" for piles of dough. Well, here’s a surefire way to guarantee you’ll never make a dime:

By Making only half of the sale.

Poor affiliates, and by that I mean both poor in technique and poor in the pocketbook, fail because they do too little. They spend too little time with their potential customer, kicking him out right when he’s getting interested. Put yourself in the customers shoes and take a look at what happens with about 90% of the affiliates out there. They try to make the sale but get a sort of inverted sequence which looks like this:

* Customer gets or already has interest in a product which you’re advertising,

* He believes your site holds fulfillment of his interest. He wants either good content or a good product,

* He sees the content/product isn’t on your site, realizes you’re a middleman and that he’s now got to go even further to find what he was looking for,

* This dulls his interest and makes him feel duped. Dissatisfaction or even anger sets in at you for wasting his time,

* He goes elsewhere, knowing the internet is a huge place and that there’s quicker satisfaction to be found. He may never come back but even if he does he may recognize you as "that site that duped me" and leave. You’re on his blacklist for life, whereas if you’d done the process correctly he’d have been a customer for life.

Do you see why that’s an inverted sequence of events? Do you know why this happens?

It’s the wicked half-sale and all comes down to content.

The first thing website owners are taught nowadays, and rightly so, is that they need content. Good, honest content and lots of it. This holds true for many reasons we won’t get into here, but I mention it to remind you that if you’re trying to make money as an affiliate, you’re going to need content as well. In fact, it may even be more important for you since there’s money on the line which often acts as a catalyst to your customer’s satisfaction or lack thereof.

See, someone comes to your site to fill a need, whether it’s to find information or an actual product he can order from you. You have to supply the fulfillment to that need. That’s your only job. I repeat, it is your ONLY job. Even if you’re an affiliate and don’t actually manufacture, store or process the product you still have to give the guy what he’s looking for.

You have to satisfy his need. If you satisfy him half-way, he’s gone. If he needs to keep searching and clicking link after link and trying to find the other half of what he’s looking for, you’ve lost him.

So there’s a good axiom for you: Unsuccessful affiliates only make half the sale.

The corollary to that is: Real affiliates, the successful, seven-figure ones, make THE WHOLE SALE. 100% of it.

That’s right. Whatever company you’re working for as an affiliate only has the job of actually having the product you’re selling and processing the payments. That’s it. You’ve got to make the sale. You’ve got to get you customer so pumped up, so interested in the product that he’s got to have it, no matter what. This comes down to all the essential copywriting points: strong headlines, good copy, urgent close, etc. And only then, when the guy has already been totally convinced that he wants what you got, do you say "Click Here to Purchase."

Any time before that is TOO EARLY.

He’s got to have decided he wants it. He’s got to have the need, the desire and the overwhelming commitment to continue the sale that one last step. Then and only then can you be sure that he WILL take that one last step. If you make him click out too early, he’s not ready. He won’t want to fill out the form, or enter his credit card info, or read more info, or even wait for another page to load. He’s not sold 100% yet.

And remember this. Even if you’re shuffling him off to another page that is good and relevant and has good copy, it’s just more time involved from his end. With that added time his satisfaction and urgency have been blunted and when that occurs it’s even harder to get them back.

Sorry, I hate to put it all on your shoulders, but if you want to be an affiliate, a real affiliate making money online, you’re totally responsible for making the sale. Depend on the stores and businesses themselves only to actually have the inventory.

The rest is up to you.

Good luck.

Top affiliate marketing techniques that are responsible for routinely raking in six figure checks for the affiliate are naturally extremely valuable. These techniques are usually a closely guarded secret. And why not, many of them are developed over many years or trial and error and continuous testing and tracking of visitors and hits at a site.

Still it is widely known that the two leading marketing techniques used by many top affiliates are related to seo (search engine optimization) and the second involves PPC (pay-per-click ads) hosted by leading search engines.

Although the second technique involves the hefty investment of funds, done properly, it comfortably pays its’ own way. This means that the cash invested usually yields a good return such that the top affiliate marketing practitioner can afford to re-invest in more PPC ads and in fact go for an increasingly bigger budget without having to dig into their pockets again.

However the really exciting thing about the seo marketing techniques used by top affiliates is the fact that they cost nothing and yet are equally effective if not more so.

Actually seo-related marketing techniques used by top affiliates are easier to copy or duplicate than you think. You really need just two important skills that are very easy to acquire and develop.

The world of sports betting has exploded since the introduction of the Internet. Due to the huge popularity and its widespread availability the Internet has lured the giants of the gambling world to lock horns on the World Wide Web as well as on the high streets. As well as the established names of the gambling world new online off shore businesses have been spreading everywhere. As a result the Internet has become a hugely lucrative and competitive marketplace for literally hundreds of gambling sites.

You may have noticed visiting various sports sites and even completely irrelevant web addresses that many carry banners offering odds and links to betting sites. These are affiliates; they earn money by generating customers for the large sites. This may sound like an aloof way of earning money, something that will only be available to the industry hot shots, but the truth is very different.

The online sports betting industry is a hugely profitable market, creating billions of dollars in revenue each and every year. Therefore like any vast industry, the rewards for the largest companies are equally huge so there is an inherent competitiveness between all companies to maximise their profits and increase their visibility. Many sites campaign through magazines, sports events and even television sponsorship. But the primary way for sites to reach visitors on the Internet is through affiliate marketing advertising campaigns. These advertising slots are essentially free marketing space for gaming sites, the more exposure they can get the more likely they are to reach their potential customer base. If one of these affiliates should attract a customer to the sports betting site, then they will be rewarded with huge bonuses or percentages of players’ total money generated for the site.

It sounds simple because it is, companies will pay to get more players on their site. Through affiliate programs they can reach online audiences a click away from their site. The value of a new member is incalculable, with the potential personal investment and word of mouth advertising they can create, therefore the online gaming sites are more than willing to give their affiliates a healthy cut of the players’ profits. Similarly the sports betting sites are not particular about which sites are worthy to house their advertisements. They are willing to supply any website owner with the banners and marketing tools for free. Because any extra advertising no matter where and no matter how many times it is accessed can be invaluable, especially when it is free.

You’ve just come across a fantastic product and you’re thinking of signing up as Affiliate but before you get carried away, here are a few pointers that can save you both time and money!

1.Is the sales letter any good, read the headline first it’s been shown that a good headline makes a big difference (it’s been proven that 75% of people make up their minds of purchasing a product just from reading the headline alone.) Is the rest of the sales letter any good, do you find yourself reading being drawn through the sales letter? Would you buy the product yourself? If you would, others probably would as well.

2.Are there any “leaks” on the sales page? By leaks I mean are there any thing on the webpage to distract your visitor from making a purchase or a way for you could lose out a commission.

For example…

•Phone numbers that the buyer could order and deal directly with the seller, letting you lose out on a commission, •E-mail addresses for the same reason as above. •Excessive pop ups or slow loading webpage’s that can frustrate your prospect. (People on the internet want everything in an instant so don’t expect them to hang around!)

3.Are there any testimonials on the sales page, the more testimonials the better especially showing how the person has benefited from using the product.

4.What kind of guarantee is being offered with the product, is it 30,60 day risk free guarantee. Don’t worry about a longer guarantee costing you money and people asking for their money back as its been shown that the longer the guarantee the less refunds you’ll get.

5.If you can, buy the product so you know yourself if it’s any good. There’s no point sending traffic to a website, making some commissions and then finding out the products poor quality and everyone wants their money back.

These tips should save you a lot of time and frustration when looking for a product to become an affiliate of…and remember not everyone surfing the web is going around with their wallet open looking to purchase something so don’t be disheartened if you get a lot of “No’s” before you finally get a “Yes.”

Online affiliate marketing is one of the many products of the Internet boom in the mid 1990’s. Due to the nature of the system and the way in which money is generated and clients determined, it could only work through a complex computerised system such as that made available by the World Wide Web. Whilst the system may appear simplistic from a business point of view, the inner workings of the affiliate program require some unique calculations.

In a standard situation, when a company wishes to advertise they can do so by hiring an advertising team, and then paying for advertising space. However the affiliate marketing program is very different. The affiliate sites are not paid up front for their trouble, they are paid as customers join through their site. If we take the model of one of the most successful affiliate programs, that of sports betting there are significant calculations that need to be made in order to accurately work out how and when to pay an affiliate.

Unlike in other affiliate programs, the sports betting sites pose a unique problem. Affiliates have the option to be paid a percentage of the money that a player who joined through them generates for the sports betting site. Therefore the sports betting site or the affiliate program needs to be able to track and accurately calculate a players betting, in order to pay the affiliate the correct amount. Firstly the affiliate is assigned a unique URL, so that the sports betting site can accurately locate where exactly the new player has joined form. The second problem is then keeping a record of the player once they are on the site, so that the affiliate is rewarded as and when thy generate money. This is usually done by assigning the new player a unique number, which can then be monitored by the sports betting site, allowing them to reward the affiliate as the money comes in.

The system is complicated in terms of the dynamics of the payment, especially when compared to the simplistic method of paying up front. But in truth the sports betting affiliate program is a simplistic automated system, which works time after time. This is a fact backed up by the thousands of sites that continue to stay with or join the affiliate-marketing program and by the huge profits that these sites are able to command. The effectiveness of the affiliate program industry has also benefited the Internet industries including but not limited to sports betting. It has also offered the opportunity to thousands of small site owners to create a small revenue for themselves, as well as creating an industry in which new businesses can be founded purely to take advantage of the lucrative marketing program.

When creating an affiliate marketing website, here are some valuable tips you should know. The key to great performance is of course having the right product—and the right marketing niche. Make sure that the content and links are easy to follow, user friendly, and that there is key contact information for your customers to reach you with follow up questions.

The headline of an affiliate website, or any website in general, should have a strong headline that grabs the attention of the reader. This should be immediate. Studies rule that the attention span of people surfing the net is far shorter than if reading a book or newspaper. Make sure the content is such that a reader will want to read more.

Plan for solid endorsement content on your web page. As a rule people like to know what others who have tried the product or service really feel about it. This is where having a hybrid sales letter/article, will be the best way to quickly inform the reader of the benefits of making a purchase. However, at this stage, the goal of an affiliate website and its content should be working to build trust. What you’ll be offering is content, reviews, and articles that will help the buyer make a decision to purchase. This necessary material will also provide search engines with the material that your prospects are looking to find. In short, this means more traffic to the web site—and the results are increased sales.

A good piece of advice is to also build in an informative FAQ section. A customer should always have every available piece of information possible at their fingertips. A FAQ section entails facts about the product and services and how they impact the customer’s level of satisfaction. This will keep them at the website.

Consider scripting support and e-commerce services as part of your affiliate marketing website development plan. The scripting option will allow you to gather information on the customers shopping habits. This can proves useful down the line when developing or offering new products. Make sure you don’t overdue it with the scripts though. Your customers should not be caught in a snag if they want to depart.

There are even web page analyzer tools that can gauge how fast your page is downloading. This information will reveal if the website is too busy. Customers will tend to shy away from websites that take too long to download. Remember, you want the customer to have easy and speedy access to the products or services. All of these things are important because they allow you to know your business up close and personal. And don’t feel lacking if you’re unfamiliar with some of these elements right now. Knowledge comes with time, often by trial and error. The goal is to reduce the error rate and maximize your time and money.

Don’t be shy either in utilizing the links on your page to their maximum advantage. A common mistake is to make the links too small or obscure at first. Try for a workable balance of size and quantity that is proportional to other word content on the site. The goal is to direct the reader to more information that can help them make a well-informed decision. A well-informed decision results in a sale—that leads into repeat buys.

If you’re serious about growing your affiliate marketing business, it’ll help to have some type of answering service also that can screen and direct inquiries if you’re unavailable to be on the other end. The most successful web sites understand this and provide immediate access for the reader. This gives the impression that the website is run by a professional. Once again, you’ll be building the trust that allows the reader to ultimately make a purchase.

What would turn people off from a potentially dynamic affiliate website, and from signing on to an affiliate marketing program is too much initial hype. People can sense if the message is all about signing up new prospects. There has to be sincerity about fulfilling a need in the initial message conveyed. The goal is find buying customers—and to retain them possibly as affiliates who will be as loyal and charged about the service as you are. Another major turnoff is a pushy response to buy now. The buy now concept may work on merchant web sites, but an affiliate marketing approach has to be far more subtle. Remember, the primary goal of the affiliate marketing program is to win friends—and influence people.

Opportunists and entrepreneurs everywhere have been looking for new and original ways to prise money away from big industries, and earn their own share of the Internet revolution. However with the potential for new and exciting online ventures seemingly depleted by the range of industries and businesses that have already been created. However there is one industry that is already in existence, creating large volume of money for people everywhere, which is constantly growing and is always in need of extra people, and that is affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing programs work by rewarding website owners for choosing to host a variety of advertising materials on their sites. The affiliates are paid on a commission basis; neither party pays any money to one another in the initial transaction. Affiliates are instead paid as and when they attract a new customer to the primary site.

The affiliate-marketing program is one of the most succinct and successful online advertising opportunities. It is a program that runs on efficiency and simplicity, but in a way that works incredibly well for both parties. Industries and internal sectors have thrived thanks in part to their involvement in an affiliate program. On the other hand the affiliate industry is a thriving source of income for millions. In the world of sports betting, affiliates have been reaping the rewards of the huge financial success and popularity of the industry. Individual affiliates can earn anywhere up to 35% of the money generated by each of the players that they introduce. With this revenue lasting for the entire lifetime of a players on the site, then an affiliate has almost unlimited earning potential, akin to that of the industry whom they represent.

With the two industries working in perfect harmony, each helping the other in order to generated extra custom and revenue, the sports betting affiliate program has become an industry to be reckoned with. Unlike most of the other online industries there are no specific personal requirements to become an affiliate either, all that is needed is a website and the will to host and advertise a secondary site. The general public probably best recognizes Google as the web’s premier search engine. Google’s dominance on the Internet can’t be denied or argued. But perhaps what many people don’t realize, Google has become a premium revenue source for many webmasters and online marketers.

It has became a virtual cash-cow for those who have mastered Google with their marketing techniques. They know a number one spot for a competitive keyword or keyword phrase in Google will usually prove very lucrative, bringing in a steady automatic income.

Regardless of what the other search engines will attest, seasoned webmasters also know getting a top placement in Google will usually bring more traffic than a top placement in MSN or Yahoo combined! Getting a number one spot in Google for a popular keyword can prove very lucrative, earning a webmaster revenue 24/7/365.

Therefore, webmasters have to optimize their sites and keywords for Google if they want to turn a healthy profit. Optimizing your webpages for Google is a complete industry in itself, what you really have to keep in mind, besides on-page optimization like keyword density, mega tags, etc. is that Google places a great amount of weight on off-page links and anchor text.

Google ranks all webpages on the Internet by a scale of PR0 to PR10, higher is better. One-way links from high PR sites related to your keyword or website theme is highly valued and will usually move your site up on the SERPs (Search Engine Return Pages). This is the major factor why ‘article marketing’ is all the rage and why articles are great building blocks for getting top keywords and consequently extremely important for earning you revenue, directly or indirectly from Google.

There are countless strategies for getting those top keyword listings in Google. But in my opinion, one of the best experts on the net for website SEO is Brad Callen. His ‘SEO Elite’ is top quality SEO software and his soon to be released ‘Keyword Elite’ will greatly impact how keywords are used by webmasters and marketers.

Once you have gained significant traffic, you can use Google AdSense to earn revenue from your site or blog. Google AdSense lets webmasters and bloggers earn advertising revenue by placing the AdSense code on their sites. These can be text links, images, or banners. These AdSense ads will be directly related to your page’s keywords. Top or highest paying keywords will naturally return more revenue. AdSense ads are extremely targeted and is an effective way of earning money from your site. Learn more: https://www.google.com/adsense

One of the undisputed top experts on using Google AdSense is Joel Comm. A seasoned marketer who has created some well informed products on Adsense — mainly his Google AdSense Secrets ebook and courses.

Of course, Google gives marketers another option, you can buy your way onto Google’s first page results by using Google AdWords. This is the popular Pay-Per-Click advertising system offered by Google. Perfecting the AdWord system is an art form in itself; do it right and you can create very lucrative cash streams. Do it wrong, and you can create your very own personal money pits! https://adwords.google.com/select

Therefore, it is strongly advised that you learn more about AdWords before you risk your hard earned cash. One of the best sources for Google AdWords is still Perry Marshall’s excellent ebook ‘The Definitive Guide to Google AdWords’. It will give you all the basics on Google AdWords.

Just about everyone knows about Google’s two popular programs AdWords and AdSense, but there are other ways marketers can earn money promoting Google products or services. Google has started to list products that an affiliate can promote through the AdSense program. You can earn money by promoting the Firefox browser with the Google search box and you can also promote Google’s AdSense program to other webmasters and earn money by referring new users.

The next logical step for Google is to offer more products through its AdSense affiliate program. Many seasoned marketers are promoting Google’s AdSense, it would be counterproductive for Google not to take advantage and offer other products/services through this marketing system. Its own products or other closely related third party products. Many marketers would gladly promote products under the Google banner mainly because any Google branded product would be an easy sale for most affiliate marketers.

Google pays monthly but you do have to earn $100 before they send you a check. Getting a check from Google is somewhat special, no matter what the amount, show your family and friends a check from Google and their eyes will pop open! If you’re an online marketer you may get quite a few larger checks from different online companies but nothing will get you the respect a Google check does. Just goes to show how much Google has permeated into our everyday lives.

Not that you need it, but it’s just another reason to start earning money for Google. Try some of the programs listed above and you will be smiling all the way to… now, where the heck is that Google Bank?
