Very successful people all have one thing in common. They know how to set specific goals to work towards. They also have one more thing in common. They achieve their goals!

As Affiliate Marketers we need to have a goal oriented mindset. If you we are going to maximize your results and rise to the level of success that is possible, you need to set targets for yourself to achieve.

I teach a method I developed to promote affiliate programs with Google Adwords. A very important aspect of this method depends on a person being able to set goals for themselves and to more importantly ignore all the natural, psychological distractions a marketer has to contend with.

You can’t expect to do as well as you could if you don’t have a very organized and goal oriented approach. If you go at things randomly with no set plan or objectives, you might as well pack up and go home now. You are setting yourself up for failure.

If I were coaching you, I would look at things like your time situation and your monetary situation. I would then figure out a realistic goal you can achieve in a specific time frame. And that is very important. Be specific as possible with your goals; this applies to your monetary goals as well. Having a mental picture of your goal will help tremendously.

If you were applying my Adwords methods, I might tell you to launch 20 new campaigns per week until you reach 100 campaigns. Then I would at that stage give you a new set of goals to take those 100 campaigns and work with them.

If you then focus, in 5 weeks you will probably have cash flow and you will feel good about your accomplishment! That will in turn motivate you to set new goals and accomplish them. You might be tempted once you find success to get lazy and stop worrying about goal setting, but don’t. Goals are important no matter what level of success you have achieved.

Set daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Decide on specific days of the week that you will sit down, review and write them out. And then make it the most important time you spend.

The hardest part with any internet marketer is sticking to one thing and seeing it through. It is very difficult to focus your energy and fully develop something because of all the distractions and new things happening online. This works against and shatters your potential achievements. Goals, if committed to, help in this area.

Commit to the goals you set. Build a solid routine. No matter what else happens in the environment you are working in, stay focused. Successful marketers don’t find success with half-hazard efforts. They are successful because they first had a goal and they saw it through.

“Is this guy nuts? As far as I know, I’m NOT losing 40% of my affiliate commissions!” Wait. Are you sure? Are you might be losing money. You might be losing up to 40% (or even more) of your affiliate commissions. And most affiliates A in this “danger zone”. It’s hard to imagine how much money all those affiliates lose every day. And it drives me mad. Because I know that it can be easily avoided – with less than 15 minutes of work! Please don’t make the same mistake that almost everyone makes. Most of my serious affiliates already know how & why they must avoid it. But I’m sick of seeing the majority of “regular” affiliates ignore my advice. Looks like they just want to lose their money. Oh well. But you should be serious about your affiliate business. Heck, i’m sure you already are.

Stop losing your hard-earned commissions – cloak your affiliate links! The whole idea of cloaking has much to do with people’s thoughts, reactions and nature. In fact – it’s all about psychology. I’m not a psychologist (some guys wanted me to, but no thanks – I really enjoy affiliate marketing ) But at this moment I can predict your reaction with 100% accuracy.

Watch this: http://www.the-ultimate-widget.com/?affiliate_id=57486 And now this: http://www.the-ultimate-widget.com

Well, we’ve just seen some pure psychology in action. Tell me? Why does the second link look and feel better? Why is it better? Why does it get the click while the first one doesn’t? That’s right. The second link doesn’t look “affiliatish”. It doesn’t resemble a referral url. In other words; "that unknown individual from the other side of the net won’t make money on MY purchase!” Please don’t say you’re not like that. Don’t say you’ve never wanted to remove that “annoying affiliate code” from someone else’s link.

So you built your site, you have tons of new and popular products on your site, you generated tons of sitemaps for all of the search engines, you have some really good inbound links and your navigation paths are excellent. Wait my pages are not being picked up in the search engines????

Ok here is the scoop, since you are pulling feeds which already exist on other sites, the new search engine algorithms will not allow that page to be indexed. I was disappointed at the turn of events and I was starting to think twice about this concept I have spent so much time developing.

Never fear there are ways to build sites with these types of feeds that will get indexed well! First come up with some original content for those who visit your site. The best way for me was to start a blog. Make sure the blog can convert your posts into RSS then get yourself a PHP script which can turn rss into html for use on your pages. Finally syndicate your original content thru out the site. Mostly on the page that has the remote execution script.

I’m not a writer how am I gonna be able to write enough original content to fill my site? It takes time and patience, while you develop you content use available and relevant feeds from all kinds of sources(CNN.com, BBC, Cnet). This should help your site, but totally original content works best. I am in the process now of updating my site-maps and also tweaking how I will display my feeds on the store integration I use.

This is how the SE’s are trying to cut down on irrelevant and unethical practices thru out the web. Most unethical affiliates will not want to spend the time to generate and syndicate useful content on to their pages. But building useful and informative sites is what will keep affiliates alive in the marketplace.

So don’t react like I did and just take it for what it is!

When you first get started online, you read a lot of info about how to make money online. I know I did. But I didn’t feel like what I read had a direct impact on what I was going to be able to do to make money. Either the information was a little vague—find a product, or make a product (what do you make or find when you are just getting started, right?), and then advertise it. Just drive traffic to your site.

So I did just that. I wrote a book. I sent traffic to my site. All kinds of traffic—most worthless, some good. But I didn’t make much money. I tracked the traffic, I tested it, I tested response rates—and I hung in there far longer than I think that the average person that wants to make money online does.

Then I discovered affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is where you simply promote another person’s product and they pay you a commission. Of course I studied that too, and saw that there are cons to affiliate marketing. Sometimes you don’t get paid your commissions. And you don’t have as much control over your sales page as with your own site.

But, I looked at the pros, too. These affiliate products already have sales pages (boy, my first sales page was a disaster), they have been tested to convert, and you don’t have to do any of the backend work like customer service and deal with PayPal or credit cards.

So I decided to test several different affiliate programs, sending them all traffic, and seeing which ones converted and sold and then paid me. And I am making money with affiliate programs. Case closed.

So how do I do it?

1) I set up a website that offers a free ebook (which is loaded with affiliate links) and an Ecourse that is mailed everyday. On the web site I put a web form that collects the visitors name and email address and sends it to my autoresponder (step 2).

2) I set up an autoresponder and wrote a series of letters that teaches people how to make money online–in plain English, and simply, easy-to-follow steps.

3) In the letters I recommend a series of products that will help them learn the skills to become successful online.

4) When my subscribers purchase products from my ebook or my series of Ecourse lessons, I receive a commission.

5) I write articles just like this one, post them on sites just like the one you are reading this from, and watch the traffic come in.

As simple as it may sound, that is precisely what I do. I know that you can duplicate what I do, and if you do, you will make money.

It is not hard nowadays to be an affiliate marketer. In the old days it was all handled by cold calling and telephones but since the age of technology we now find the best affiliate marketers are online and their earning potential has soared due to the number of users and the reach they now have now thanks to the internet.

A day in the life of an affiliate marketer is somewhat different to what it used to be. Now you have a lot of competitors and search engine optimization to deal with to get the right traffic to your website or affiliate pages in order to make that sale. When an affiliate marketer gets up in the morning he usually starts off his day checking his emails as it is very important to not miss anything that is important whether it be a question from a perspective buyer or an affiliate you have sponsored wanting some help. In order to maintain a good reputation you need to be able to communicate with people and assist them when needed. People like to know they are dealing with a real person and not just a computer.

With affiliate marketing he can either work with just affiliate link pages or he may have his own website. Once he has gone through his emails he would then check on his sites statistics to see that he is getting the traffic he needs. If he is not getting the traffic he will increase his backlinks to his site by adding useful replies in a multitude of forums. Each one of these replies is a link directly back to the affiliate marketing site. In order to rank high for your chosen keyword you need to link that keyword in your signature back to your site. The more links you have the better placed you are on the search engine and the more targeted traffic you will get.

In order to make a lot of sales the Affiliate Marketer will write keyword rich articles for each of his products and submit them to as many sites as possible. Or he will pay a submission company to submit his articles as they will do it much faster and to many more article directories. Remember each one of these articles is also another backlink back to the affiliate website hence increasing his position on the search engines for his chosen keyword.

The Affiliate Marketer will also generally run some pay per click ads in google, yahoo, big daddy to name a few. He will also check his stats and tweak his ad accordingly to increase clicks through to his site at the cheapest price possible. He doesnt want to pay anything over 5 cents per click generally.

The Affiliate Marketer will end up checking his email all through the day to be on top of it, it is not unusual for a successful internet marketer to have to wade through hundreds of emails, but he will do it because he knows it is important.

To check his links are increasing the affiliate marketer will use backlink checkers to ensure his links are increasing accordingly. You can check your links for free at linkpopularity.com, it is also recommended to submit your website to the search engines once a month to get them listed. An affiliate marketer is more interested in ranking well in the major search engines as this is the place he will get the majority of his traffic from.

Once all this is under control the Affiliate Marketer will check out his competition and see what they are up to and he will check his sites he is affiliated with for any new products he might like to promote or write an article about as he is already preparing his next days work.

You can make so much money selling and promoting other people’s products and services. Affiliate marketing is becoming more popular everyday. My success as an affiliate marketer has been centered in the online poker field. In 2005 I was one of the top affiliates for PacificPoker.com. I am also an affiliate for eBay and several poker product websites.

PacificPoker.com offered a generous affiliate payout. Most online poker rooms and online casinos have affiliate programs. PacificPoker.com paid me $200.00 for every person I sent through their online doors that made a minimum deposit of $50.00. I made over $100,000 last year from this affiliate program alone.

The best way to get started as an affiliate is to visit CommisionJunction. They list thousands of websites that want people like you to sell their products or services. The setup process is simple. And all you have to do is promote and sell. The website you are an affiliate for handles everything else, payments, charge backs, shipping etc. You are tracked through a code and you generally get a percentage of each sale you helped to initiate. Whether you are referring to poker site or selling Ipods as an affiliate marketer, the key to success is finding creative ways to promote. I created a simple website in Microsoft Frontpage. I sold a poker e-book I wrote and poker products as an affiliate.

Some very useful affiliate resources:+

* Clickbank Sell digital products as an affilaite- ebooks software and more… (an excerpt from the clickbank site) With ClickBank every link on your web site can be a source of revenue. Use the ClickBank Marketplace to find sites that will be of interest to people who visit your web site. Next to each site listing you’ll see a percentage. This is the commission you can earn for referring a paying customer to ClickBank to purchase that product.

* CBEngine (an excerpt from the CBEngine site)

CBENGINE is the best tool available if you promote and sell ClickBank marketplace products!

How I was Successful:

Most affiliate marketers advertise their websites using Pay Per Click advertising like Google Adwords. The problem is Pay Per Click companies like Google Adwords don’t allow people to place Pay Per Click ads that lead to an online poker room or casino (gambling site). They actually spider your site to verify no links lead to a gambling site.

So I got creative. I removed ALL links to gambling sites from my website. I then put them in my e-book which I sold in pdf format. The result- I was able to indirectly advertise as an affiliate for PacficPoker.com using Pay Per Click advertising when no one else could (or knew how to!). My Pay Per Click costs were dirt cheap because there was so little competition (All other poker/casino affiliates gave up because they were not permitted to link to gambling sites). Result over 4000 e-books sold and over 250 referrals to PacificPoker.com !

Be creative

Perhaps one of the more common strategies in Internet Marketing today is that of affiliate marketing. A practice that originally started from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, this has lead to extending the marketing arm of most companies and further maximizing the web in providing equal and beneficial opportunities to online professional who know their way around the web.

Much has been said about the different schemes of affiliate marketing such as the commonly known pay per click advertisements, referral schemes and pay per sale, similar to that of realizing commissions once a sale has been consummated. Such has become a craze among online individuals who maintain websites and blogs, giving them all equal opportunity to consider online earning through such practices.

The only downside for such practices is that some people tend to focus more on the earning schemes rather than the relevant content of their sites. Some even go as far as being considered spam and useless sites that become link farms as well, just for the sake of having a good page rank with Google. While such an occurrence is deemed only normal, earnings from such may not always be the case, since they may eventually be classified as sites that are home to spam and adaware sites just to increase page ranks without even gaining a single cent for their trouble.

There are so many products, schemes and ebooks you can buy that teach you about affiliate marketing, choosing the right one is a matter of losing money and wasting your time. So how do you choose the right one for you?

Well I suggest visiting forums and review sites, if so many people are saying a certain product is worth it then it probably is. My favourite forum is the http://www.warriorforum.com, there are so many internet savvy people on there and they are all really friendly too. For a review site try http://honest-money-making-reviews.blogspot.com.

The top tip I can give you is to actually do something with the information you receive. The reason that 99.99% of people fail on the internet is because they didn’t give the product a chance and expected to make money by just buying the product and leaving it.

My advice to you is to try something, give it your all for at least 2 months before you give up.

Good Luck Affiliate Marketer. You can do it.

I have been working on the internet now for over 2 years and I can honestly say I am extremely happy with what I do and thing that there is room for more HONEST people. People who have the capacity to build and maintain their own websites but do not have the temperament to sell products can choose affiliate programs as a means to earn money online. All these people need to do is to maintain an interesting website that continues to attract people and partner with an appropriate affiliate program.

An affiliate program is where a company or institution pays a website owner according to the number of referrals that his or her website gives them. The referrals are based on the number of clicks made on their advertisements. Other companies also give additional pay for referred people who eventually agree to sign-up for a regular electronic newsletter.

Affiliate programs usually implement a three-month cookie cache policy. This means that the person does not necessarily have to buy the products or services of the company immediately. Website owners can still earn money from the referrals when the purchase is done within three months from the time the advertisement was viewed. This is tracked through website cookies stored in the cache of the referral’s computer.

To ensure that website owners can consistently earn large amounts of money through affiliate programs, they need to ensure that their websites always contain interesting information. This way, more visitors will keep coming to their websites and, thus, more referrals can be made.

Website owners should also ensure that they pick the right affiliate programs for them. They cannot simply choose any affiliate program because they should make certain that the programs posted on their websites are connected with the website theme. They should also be careful of flooding their websites with too many affiliate programs. Some visitors get irate over several advertisements. They need to maintain a quantity that is tolerable for most website visitors.

Some affiliate programs charge membership fees. There is no guarantee that website owners can earn back their money from such affiliate programs. For starters, it is best recommended to try out free affiliate programs. As their website gains popularity, they may choose to include other affiliate programs.

Hi…

My name is "Affiliate Marketer X" and you know what?…

I know how you feel, I used to feel the same way, going to that boring J.O.B. (Just Over Broke)…., meeting a boss that don´t appreciate your job…., but the worst thing wasn´t that, no, the worst thing was that I did not have the time to spend with my family, they are one of the most important things in my life.

I was like a rat running around in circles trying to make things better, but I realize now that it was a stupid way of thinking, why?

Because, well, the answer is pretty simple: I was doing just that, "running around in circles", the answer was just in front of me…, and I couldn´t see it, in other words, I didn´t see the forest for the tree!

I become to realize that if you want to make things work in your life you have to change the way you make things, and most of the times the answer lies just in front of your nose. (doh!)

Well, what changes did I made you probably ask yourself?

Ok, here it goes, It might inspires you:

1) => De first thing I asked myself was:

What Do I Wan´t To Accomplish?…

Remember to try and to really "Do" something is completely different, why? because if you only "Try" to do something you will actually never "Do" it, a person who "Do", is someone who takes action in his life.

So start thinking about what you really want to "Do", take a paper and a pen and write down the things you want to accomplish by having an online business.

Then when you have a list of things start with, start with the most important things for you, because that is what is going to motivate you along the road. Think also about your most urgent needs.

Why are you starting an online venture as an affiliate or a home based business owner? Do you want to have some extra money? Do you want to do this full time? Do you want to be more time with your family?…. I think you get the picture.

2) => The second thing is:

Who Is Going To Do It?

Many people think that starting an online business is just setting up a domain name and a website and that the buyers will come….Wrong! And Wrong again!

You actually have to project yourself into the near future to see "Who" is actually going to do the work.

You have two options:

A) Do it yourself.

B) Hire someone.

Your decision will depend on two factors: time and money

Do you have more time then money on your hands or vice versa?

This will be a critical factor upon deciding this step.

Take some time and think about it and then take some more: Action!

3) => The Third:

When Is It Going To Be Done?

One of the biggest obstacles to success is in one word:

Procastination.

The nature of the human being is to procastinate things, we say: "Oh, I know this is important to do, but…hey! I don´t think it matters to much if I do it tomorrow!…", but reality is that when tomorrow comes, you will probably say the same thing and there you are going around in circles again…

So, stop right now thinking that way and change your way of thinking and say instead: "What can I do today to makes things different?"

And I am not talking about going to the bank and getting a loan of $100,000 dollars, no!

I am talking about those little but positive changes you can make today to make a difference in your life, i.e. right now you are taking a very important and crucial step to change things in your life and I know you want it!

How do I know it? Well, you´re still reading this right?….

4) => And the last one:

How Much Is It Going To Cost Me?

To be totally sincere, you can start a business online for under $100 dollars or less if you are willing to get your hands dirty.

In this case I specially recommend starting with affiliate programs, because you have no stock or inventory to handle.

You can set up a domain and hosting account to start with for under $20 and if you can write an honest and unbiassed review for a product you are ready and set to go.

Now, you also need visitors to your site, remember this and don´t get fooled by empty promises, if you have zero visitors you will get zero sales, it´s as simple as that.

Don´t know how to get people to your site?

Again, the money is a big factor in this game but not necessary an obstacle.

Ok, here we go:

a) Send out solo ads to ezines. b) PPC search engines c) Search Engine Optimization (SEO) d) Link Exchanges with other sites e) Traffic Exchange sites.

If you opt for the free way I recommend you starting with traffic exchange sites, but the way to use this correctly is to get people to sign up for free (they are totally free) and the you will earn traffic for their efforts.

But there are only a handful of quality sites out there, so I recommend you getting your feet wet with Instant Buzz and Trafficswarm, they are one of the best and most reliable traffic exchange sites online, in fact you can get targeted traffic coming in today.

The other methods takes a little bit more time to understand but they are definitely worth it.

This way of thinking put me on the road to success and it keeps helping me to put my thougths in order when I have to get things fixed.

Don´t sit on this information, take one step today and you are going to change the rhythm in your life.

And that my friend is part of a day in my life…, a day in the life of "Affiliate Marketer X".

So, what’s an affiliate program? An affiliate program is a way for a company or individual to get other people to sell their products for them in exchange for a portion of the profits.

Typically the way it works is that you sign up as an affiliate for a specific website. They will send you a special link that allows them to track any visitors that come from your site. Once you put this link on your website, anyone that makes a purchase from your affiliate website will be tracked and you will get a portion of the sale. The sad part is that most affiliate programs only offer a few cents commission for each referral. I don’t know about you, but I need more incentive than that to make me want to send traffic to another website.

The good news is that there are several affiliate programs out there that will give you up to 75% of each sale that you generate. These programs are typically part of an affiliate network. What’s an affiliate network? An affiliate network is a collection of websites that sell similar kinds of products and usually share a similar way of creating affiliate links. Here is a list of the ones that you must join if you are going to take advantage of affiliate networks:

1) ClickBank

2) Commission Junction

3) BeFree - Part of Commission Junction

4) LinkShare

ClickBank is probably the easiest affiliate network get started with, and I highly recommend it for beginners. ClickBank is unique in that it will only sell digital products. This usually means software, ebooks, mp3 and video courses, anything that can be delivered immediately on purchase through the Internet.

Commission Junction is a collection of companies that sell physical products: Home electronics, credit cards, you name it. There are some big names doing business in this affiliate network, so it is definately worth a look. A word of warning though, you need to have been around for at least a year and belong to the local Better Business Bureau.

BeFree is just a spin off of the Commission Junction system. Again, there are a lot of great programs in here, so take a look and see if there is something you are interested in marketing.

Link Share is another great program with a lot of really great brick and mortar companies.

So now that you know what an affiliate network is, what kinds of products should you sell? What you want to look for is earnings-per-click for each product in the affiliate network. This will tell you which programs are converting the best, ClickBank calls this number Gravity. Look at the products with the highest gravity in each ClickBank category and start marketing those. Be careful though, also look the amount that is earned per sale and the amount of the commission you get. If someone is selling a product for $40 and you get a 50% commission, you get $20 per sale. If the amount earned per sale is only $10, then you know that there are a lot of returns, so you need to find something else to market.

If you can, try and purchase the products yourself to see if you feel comfortable marketing them or if you think they are a scam. I do not promote any products that I have not personally tried and have been able to pay for themselves or deliver the results they promise within a couple of months.

There are a several ways that you can use affiliate links to generate income. As I mentioned in my article on PPC advertising, you can write short ads for Google AdWords and insert your affiliate link directly into the ad. The drawback to this is that you have to write one ad per affiliate link, which can cost you more money. This can work if you are marketing profitable products, but you need to figure out if they are profitable very quickly.

A better idea is to put links on your own website and market your website. The advantage of this is that you are only paying for traffic to your website and can market dozens of affiliate products at the same time. The downside of this is that you need to get people to click twice, once to the get your site and a second time on the affiliate link.

This normally isn’t too much of a problem, especially if you write an honest review of each product that you are selling. Highly what worked in the program, what problems it solves, and how it solves them. Then give people the option of clicking on the affiliate link.

One trick that is useful when marketing affiliate links is to offer a rebate of some kind, usually about 15-20% of the total cost of the product you are marketing. Tell people that if they buy the product through you, they can save 15% off the total price. Make sure that you explain that they need to purchase the product at the full price and that they need to send you some kind of proof of purchase. Then, after 90 days you send them a check or pay them through PayPal for the amount of the rebate. You need to wait 90 days to make sure that they can not get a refund on their credit cards. Quit honestly, only about 20% of the people that use your link will ever ask for the rebate. They forget to send you the proof of purchase, and after 90 days they have probably moved on to other things and completely forgotten that they bought something from you in the first place.

Another great way to use affiliate links is to put them in your email campaigns. If you have a website with an email newsletter, put a small ad for the products you are selling at the bottom of the email. Alternatively, you can write an entire email around a single product and send it to your list.

The real power of an affiliate network comes when you are selling your own products. If you sign up with ClickBank and you have a digital product, you can literally get thousands of people to market your product for you. When you are first starting out with this, offer affiliates a 75% commission on each sale, the highest that ClickBank will allow. This attracts affiliates like crazy, especially if you have a quality product that doesn’t generate many returns.

Another trick you can use to get affiliates to market your website is to offer the top performing affiliates an additional few dollars for each sale they generate. You can either send these people a check or pay them through PayPal at the end of the month. This is particularly useful for keeping affiliates, and keeping them promoting your product. You might only make a few dollars per sale, but if there is a high enough volume you can still make a ton of money.
