If you are looking for a way to make extra money from home using the internet, you might want to check out one of the many affiliate marketing systems available. If you do a search for affiliate marketing system, you will come up with probably 100’s of different programs to try.

An affiliate marketing system is basically a system in which you join an affiliate program and then make a commission on the sales which are made through your link. The commissions vary in amounts. There are several large affiliate networks s you can join. You can also join programs independently. If its for sale on th internet, chances are pretty good that there is an affiliate program to go along with it.

The affiliate marketing system works to your benefit in several ways. You do not need to stock any products. You do not need to take any orders. No shipping. All you do is write an advertisement that makes people want to buy whatever it is you are promoting. They then click on your link to buy the product and you make a commission. It is all done automatically. You can make a great deal of money with an affiliate marketing system if you know what you are doing.

People who have products they are trying to promote like the affiliate marketing system because it is literally a whole army of people trying to sell their products. They will sell far more this way then they would if they had to advertise on their own because affiliates pay their own advertising costs. That is why sites like Clickbank are able to pay such high commissions.

There is only one drawback to the affiliate marketing system for the affiliate that I can think of. That drawback is a new affiliate getting in over their head in advertising costs. It is very important to know what your costs are and compare it to what your making to ensure you are making a profit. The affiliate marketing system can be brutal to the affiliate who jumps in without really knowing what they are doing and deciding to promote a product without doing any research. You need to know that a product will sell before you decide to promote it. You also need effective keywords that are inexpensive if you are going to turn a profit.

The affiliate marketing system is one that takes some time to learn, but with the right tools, almost any one can be successful. If you do the right research before starting you r marketing campaign, you can learn about effective keywords for your product and the best way to advertise. Some affiliate programs will even give you keywords to use to promote their products but you need to make sure you add your own as well. The more effective keywords the better in an affiliate marketing system. Keywords are where your traffic comes from. Without targeted traffic, your affiliate marketing system will not be successful.

There are an amazing number of myths on the internet in regards to affiliate marketing. Many of these myths survive because they are far more appealing than the truth. Many people persist in believing that affiliate marketing can make you a millionaire overnight. Stories abound about the affiliates who are raking in huge sums of money. While in many cases these stories are true the people who believe that they will instantly do the same when they start affiliate marketing are sadly mistaken.

It is true that there is enormous profit potential in affiliate marketing, and there are many people who have worked hard to rise to the top rank of marketers that are now reaping the rewards of their effort. Many of these people now lead very prosperous lives that they probably could not have attained any other way. These are the people that have taken the time to learn all about internet marketing. If you talk to any of them they will tell you that there is a lot of money to be made but none of it is "easy" money.

Many people are ignorant of the knowledge and work needed to be successful affiliate marketers, which invariably leads them to failure. They enter the business with nothing more than myths and visions of great wealth for the taking. They don’t realize that this lack of knowledge will lead them to make mistakes that will doom their business enterprise.

This lack of knowledge is why some affiliates make very large sums of money but most make little or none. They try to be successful at this business without ever really understanding exactly how it operates. Throwing a few links up on your website is not enough to make a fortune as an affiliate, you must learn the market and what your customers needs are to be successful.

Here are some of the most common mistakes made by novice affiliates. Hopefully by dispelling some of the myth and pointing out these common errors it will help people enter into affiliate marketing with a greater chance for success.

1. Failure to understand search engines: If you want to become a successful internet marketer without a large advertising budget you will need a way to get traffic to your site for free. Traffic from search engines is the best way to accomplish this. You will need to learn to work with the search engines and make them your best friends. You will need to learn how to optimize your sites to place high in the searches for relevant key words. Do not make the mistake of trying to "game" or trick the search engines. If you are good or lucky you might manage it for a little while but eventually the search engines will figure out your tricks and you will find your self with no traffic. The search engines become more intelligent every day learn to work with them and not against them.

2. Not providing good information: Many affiliates just throw some banners or text links on their site and wait for the money to roll in. You will find that this strategy will give you very low click through rates. You need to provide good useful content about the items you are trying to promote. Give your visitors good information and you will find that your click through rates and sales will increase dramatically.

3. Not diversifying: Many affiliates make the mistake of only promoting a single item or at best items from a single provider. If you give your customers more choices and options you will get more sales. The other problem with this strategy is that all of your eggs are in one basket. If the product you are selling goes out of production or the company you represent goes out of business you are suddenly left with no income.

4. Lack of Focus: The other end of the spectrum is the affiliate that tries to offer everything on one site. These sites lack focus making it harder to drive traffic to them. The lack of focus is also very distracting to the visitors you do manage to attract. Because of this very few will remain on the site very long and even fewer will purchase anything.

There is a lot of money to be made as an affiliate but the ones who are successful are the one that take the time to learn all about internet marketing. Then to take that knowledge and apply it on a regular basis to build a successful business. Be sure to look in the resource area to learn how you can get more information for free.

Imagine knowing what the most popular search terms are at any given moment. What could you do with that information? Off the top of my head I can think of a few things–

  • Find a niche topic
  • Research the competition
  • Develop a campaign around what’s popular
  • Determine the key words you should use
  • Select merchants to promote
  • Select which ads to place on your website
  • Create an information product
  • Select a topic to blog about
  • Create a newsletter

I’m sure you can think of even more.

If you’re trying to make money online, one of the most helpful things you can know is what people are searching for. Without that knowledge, anything you do is guesswork. The great thing about the Internet is that people put stuff out there for free, and you just have to go find it. The not-so-great thing about the Internet is the time it takes to find really useful information. You could do research and spend hours data mining for what you need to know. If you’re very proficient at programming, you could write a script to come up with the same information. However, if you’re like me, time is often more valuable than money. If someone has done the work for you, why reinvent the wheel?

If you are an affiliate marketer using Clickbank, then you know the claims that vendors make in order to get you to advertise and sell their products. Beware! After six months of testing the claims, I have found that most of the claims are little more than exaggerations that could end up costing you money.

I have been an affiliate marketer for almost a year now. No, I do not make loads of money, the truth is, I am relatively surprised that I have even been marginally successful. With all of my hard work, I may make $200 a month - not a whole lot when you look at what Clickbank vendors claim.

There are two main things that vendors claim that I have found to be little more than extreme exaggeration. The first is the conversion rate and the second is always exaggerated claims about the product. I have been testing out some of these claims for the past six months, which included not only spending money on advertising, but also buying products to see if the claims that were made in the sales pitch were true. Here is what I found:

The conversion rates claimed by the 100-200 products I advertised were not even close to the actual conversion rates. Several of the products claimed a 2-5% conversion rate, but the conversion rate for all but two turned out to be half a percent to 1 percent. This is not good for affiliate marketers using search engine marketing because the cost of advertising will eventually out pace that of sales. Say you are selling a product that you make $20 per sale on. At a 1 percent conversion rate, you would need to bid only 20 cents on your keywords to break even. However, anymore, it is hard to get a good position in the search engines bidding that low. In fact, in one of the search engines, that low of a bid might even render your keyword inactive.

Also concerning the conversion rates, is the rate of returns. Conversion rates do not take into account the number of returns that the product gets. Granted, clickbank will discontinue a product if it gets too many returns, but how much do you have to lose before this happens. If returns are figured into the conversion rate, you may be looking at less than a half of a percent conversion rate.

The other claim that many vendors make concerns the product themselves, especially those work-at-home products, or adwords products. Some of them are okay, but after purchasing 10 products myself, I haven’t found a single one that fulfilled the claim on the sales letter page. I only kept two of these products because while they did not actually do what they said they did, they did provide enough information that I didn’t know and lead me to discover other things about marketing.

For new affiliate marketers, beware. Don’t believe the claims until you have tried them out yourself. If a product does not do what it claims, do not waste your money and stop advertising it and write a review letting other affiliate marketers and potential customers know that the claims are exaggerated.

It’s no secret that there’s a lot of money involved with affiliate marketing. This is only true however, for those who are serious and hard working on their affiliate program. The biggest part of succeeding depends on your perseverance and determination.

Even the best of affiliate programs won’t prosper if you don’t build the business on a solid foundation. Nothing happens if the banners and links you place on a website just decorates the pages. The affiliate must convince visitors to click on the banner or link then proceed to the program to buy products.

Affiliate marketing can be easy if you have planned your campaign well and have taken the right steps towards success. Choosing the right product and designing your website with banners and the right material are keys to making things happen.

An ad tracker is a software program that will allow you to trace and monitor every click that is made by visitors through your referral link. To make things even better, you know exactly where you placed the link. You can either use a service provider or purchase ad tracking software.

With ad trackers, you can monitor the progress of your campaigns, even advertising offline. If you have several affiliate accounts, this tool can be very good to have.

Each and every decision you make should be well grounded in facts. By using an ad tracker, you’ll be able to generate traffic reports for your personal sales page. Armed with the proper knowledge and an ad tracking software program, you’ll have no problems succeeding in the affiliate marketing world. It can be tough to get started - although once you start making money you’ll be glad you took the chance!

Affiliate programs have fast become one of the most popular ways to bring in extra income with your website. The reason for this is that you often do not have to pay anything to get started, you usually have to do relatively little, yet you will see a return on the space and time you provide for the affiliate program. Affiliate programs are all over the Internet, typically the most difficult part of them is choosing which one is the right one for you.

Affiliate programs or networks sound big and scary and like something you cannot do, but it is simply an intermediary that you go to for the purpose of selecting advertisers for your website. These advertisers usually pay to be a member of the affiliate program and then every time the advertisement on your website is clicked on you will be paid a portion of what the affiliate network is paid for each click.

Every affiliate program works a bit differently, so before you choose one you may want to be aware of how you will make money through these programs. There are three basic payment setups and they are pay per impression, pay per click, and pay per sale or lead. One payment scheme may benefit some while another payment scheme would more greatly benefit another.

Pay Per Impression
Pay per impression means that you are paid according to the number of times any given advertiser’s banner is displayed on your website. How much you make is usually calculated by the CPM or click per thousand. If your CPM is $10 that means that you will be paid $10 for every 1,000 displays of the banner. This doesn’t sound like much, but if you have a lot of traffic to your site it will add up.

Pay Per Click
Pay per click means that you are paid when the visitors to your website click on the advertiser’s banner. This payment scheme typically pays better than the pay per impression, but you depend on your visitors to click on the advertisement or banner to get paid. If you get a lot of traffic you can usually do quite well with a pay per click set up but if you don’t have a lot of traffic it is difficult to earn with such a setup. If you can select the advertisements that will appear on your website so that they are relevant to your site you’ll see better results.

Pay Per Sale
A pay per sale or lead set up will give you the highest payment amounts, but the number of people that actually click on a banner and give the company a sale or lead is a lot less than will click on the banner or simply load the page. You’ll always do better with a pay per sale or lead scheme if the banners or advertisements are targeted toward your audience, and if they are good you can earn a good deal of money through this sort of affiliate program.

Final Thoughts
There are a ton of great affiliate programs out there, and you can often work with more than one. You should definitely check them out before you sign up just so you are sure that your goals and the goals of the affiliate network are the same. The more control you are given over the ads the network places on your website the better your earnings will be. Affiliate programs can really add to your current earnings so that your website more than pays for itself each year. Every website owner should look into affiliate programs because it’s easy and can earn a substantial amount of money over time.

Affiliate marketing is the revenue sharing between online advertisers (and merchants) and online salespeople. Compensation and pay is based on performance measures, normally in the form of clicks, sales, and registrations.

The advertisers and merchants are normally referred to as affiliate merchants, and publishers or sales people are known as affiliates.

The many benefits of affiliate marketing include the potential for making lots of money. You can automate a lot of the advertising process and receive payment only for desired results, which includes sales, registrations, and clicks.

Even though most merchants will assume some level of risk with fraud, there is still a level of risk involved. Once you know what you’re doing with affiliate marketing, you’ll be on top well before you know it.

Affiliate marketing has been a contributor to the rise of many companies online, including Amazon.com. Amazon.com was one of the first adopters of affiliate marketing, and now has thousands of affiliate relationships.

When it comes to making money, affiliate marketing is in a league of it’s own. You don’t have to worry about bosses breathing down your neck, and you are in control of everything you do with your company and your website.

Affiliate marketing also gives you the chance to stand behind products you know and love, be offering links and banners to them on your personal website. You’ll receive money for each product purchased that you represent, which is reason enough to participate.

If you’ve been looking for extra money, affiliate marketing is the way to go. You can stick with one merchant or go with as many as you need for your business. Affilate marketing on the internet is truly becoming more and more popular - making now the time for you to get your foot in the door.

Maybe the whole concept of affiliate marketing just sounds too good to be true, but some people are making a good living at affiliate marketing.

If you are building an Internet affiliate business, it captures your interest to hear about the successful “Super Affiliates.” Here’s how to develop your own successful affiliate marketing business from scratch.

Anyone who says you don’t need a website or Blog to be a successful affiliate is just not telling you the full story. You need a place to capture contact information. On many websites and Blogs, you see submission boxes; these boxes are also called “opt-in boxes.”

Every successful Internet or Affiliate marketer, on the web, has these boxes. They offer something related to your site, such as: Free reports, e-Books, MP3’s, services, or a related product, in exchange for contact information.

Usually, opt-in boxes ask for a first name and Email address. When newsletters are produced, they must be full of useful information, but you should place your affiliate links, within the text of your newsletter, where they will produce affiliate commissions for you.

This is the foundation of your future Email marketing program. Without this foundation you are constantly searching for new traffic that zips in and out of your Blog or website, and might not ever come back again. A useful newsletter, related to your niche, will keep your members coming back for more. Below is a plan to bring your affiliate marketing efforts toward success.

Build a Blog or Website, and fill it with keywords that draw in targeted traffic toward your specific landing pages. Word Tracker is the most valuable keyword tool on the Internet. If you want to use something free, try the Google AdWords keyword tool, but here’s a gentle reminder - You do get what you pay for.

Your pages should be related, in subject matter, toward your specific niche. For Example: Dog food and real estate should not be sharing the same Blog or website.

Some people think they can just optimize their site by changing a few Meta tags, but you must also optimize your site title, header, footer, page descriptions, alt tags, and all of your content. In fact, your content is an extremely valuable asset.

Any kind of valuable content initially draws the search engines to your site and then targeted traffic will be soon to follow. “Unique content” is even more valuable. Here’s why: If you can get original content, which is written by you, or a reputable copywriter; your site will draw attention from search engine “web spiders.” These spiders or bots get your site indexed and ranked.

All of what we have covered so far is basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy. It is wise to pick up a book on SEO and develop your site accordingly. Doing it yourself will be time consuming, rewarding, and inexpensive, but outsourcing a competent SEO expert will not be cheap.

You can also get involved with a pay-per-click program, such as Google AdWords, but I warn you, it’s expensive and Google wants content on your site.

There was a time when some successful affiliates designed sites full of hyperlinks with little or no content. These have become known as “link farms.”

Times have changed and if all you have is a link farm, you may see your price on keywords is five, ten or twenty dollars per click. This basically means: Add keyword rich content or “pay through the nose.”

Are you just starting your new online business empire?

Well I was just like you not long ago, slaving away at my PC trying to find the best strategies for online business success. Throughout this period I spent heaps of my hard earned cash on information products which were meant to bring me instant riches (or so it was claimed). After wasting money on products which didn’t deliver on their promises and unscrupulous webmasters not living up to the money back guarantee, I thought a change of tack was necessary.

Instead of reading the information products marketing pages, I thought I would be smart and try and get some independent third party advice from product review sites. As I was a complete novice, I thought, there had to be people on the web who had been through this search for good products and would give honest product reviews. I was wrong!

I bought products which had great reviews on these ‘independent’ business review sites. However I was still getting stung by inferior products which didn’t deliver. This is when I asked myself the question. Why is it so hard to find honest, independent product review information?

I know I was a bit slow on the uptake (actually a mentally challenged monkey, would have caught on quicker than what I did). However that is when I started reading about affiliate programs.

The light bulb was turned on in my brain (a true eureka moment) and that is when I realised, the review sites were affiliates of the products they were selling. This meant that if I bought a product through a link on the business review sites, the review site received a percentage (generally over 50 %!) of the sale. Not a bad deal really, considering all the hard work is done by the product creator.

I smelt a rat and after further investigation I found out that most of the reviews aren’t reviews at all. They were merely marketing advertisements written by the products creators and cut and paste onto the business review sites. What a scam! None of the review sites told me about their ulterior motive and to be honest I was very annoyed especially after investing so much of my money and time.

Ensure the review website you are visiting gives honest reviews of information products, written by someone other than the product’s creators. This will usually be hard to find out, so I suggest visiting only reputable sites. I don’t want you to get scammed and waste your money like I did. There needs to be more honesty, integrity and business transparency on the web.

Mistakes affiliates make result generally from a lack of knowledge. Yes, we know there are many ebooks showing affiliates the way to go. But remember, even the gurus had a learning curve. Gurus made mistakes too.

The key for affiliates today is to learn as much as they can even as they join affiliate programs. The major portion of affiliate sales are raked in by only 5% of the affiliates! Please don’t let that information discourage you.

Newbies especially, be encouraged. Here is the other side of the coin! A research firm Forrester Research, indicates that we affiliates will have $280 billion dollars/year to divide up amongst ourselves by 2008. Walk don’t run, take your time, and learn the ropes. There is hope for us! But try to avoid the following:

Affiliate Mistake #1

When you promote, be sure to promote the product. Nothing else, just the product. Let the wealthy people who captured you into their program be concerned about promoting the program. You just focus on selling the product. That’s what affiliates do.

While you’re at it, endorse the product. You are your chief weapon in your marketing arsenal. Did you know that? Well you know it now. Tell them about the product. Let them know how it has benefited you. Endorse, endorse and endorse some more!

Affiliate Mistake #2

Stay away from the heavy hitters. If your specialty in the offline world was marketing that doesn’t mean you’re going to be great in the online world. Swim in the waters where the small grunts are first.

As you learn a few online tips and tricks, then you can wade into deeper water. But don’t go out too far! The deeper waters of the Internet are known to be shark-infested.

Affiliate Mistake #3

Are you capturing names and addresses? No! You’ve gotta be kidding me! You’re letting money slip through your fingers. Answer this? Would you rather buy from someone that you trust, or someone that you don’t trust? Yeah! I figured so.

Collect those emails and start to build some trust with your very own list. Take your time with this. Don’t rush them. Don’t bug them either. Work on that list immediately.

Affiliate Mistake #4

Keep track of the promotions you do. Some will be duds. There’s nothing worse than throwing money after an unprofitable promotion. What makes it worse is that you may have a profitable promotion that you aren’t paying much attention to but should be.

Affiliate Mistake #5

While you‘re working on your affiliate programs what’s happening with your own product? What was that? I didn’t hear you? No? Okay, what do you like to do? Quite frankly you may not be able to pursue what you are passionate about.

But there must be something you can do? Everyone on the topside has a gift. Is it plumbing? Gardening? You must have something up your sleeve. If it’s something you’re passionate about, and it works online, you may have arrived. But you won’t know until you take action.

Let’s be realistic. You’re going to make mistakes, you’re human. Allow me to encourage you with this; there is more money out there than the mistakes you can make. You’ll be an expert one day. And when that happens you won’t be able to get out of the way of those affiliate commissions.

Mistakes affiliates make should always be learning experiences. Simply knowing what you’ve read in this article isn’t enough. Action is required in order to be successful. To learn how you can do exactly that, and to learn more about Wycliffe Williams and his website, check this out. http://www.wyclefinnovations.com/amb.html
