A Joint Venture (J.V.) is where you take on a partner in your venture, if you enter into a J.V. then you will obviously have to give away a certain amount of your profits to your partner, this can be 10%, 20% or 50% or more.

When you enter into an affiliate program you get a certain amount when you sell someone else’s product, this is basically a Joint Venture, it could also be called a commission product, i.e.: you get commission for every item you sell.

What’s the difference between a J.V. and an Affiliate.

Not a lot really they both make you money, the main difference is you own the product from a J.V. and can choose who sells for you, I like to think a J.V. has two parts to it, 1) You have the product. 2) Your partner has an email list, this can be reversed of course and you have the List and your partner has the product.

A J.V. has one advantage over affiliates in that you can target your product, also sell quickly because who ever mails to the list sends the product out to hundreds all at once, on the same day, so you get blitz buying.

You can also have more than one Joint Venture

An affiliate is pretty similar with the main difference being: an affiliate advertises the product on a Web site, you have no control who you have as affiliates, the affiliates sell for you from their Web site you have no choice who sells for you and you could have hundreds of affiliates. So basically you are casting your bread upon the waters.

The main players for the e-commerce part are Clickbank and PayPal, Clickbank offers a means to pay affiliates, where PayPal does not, PayPal money can be transferred easier than money in Clickbank.

So we can see that a J.V. can target sales as well as produces quick sales over a shorter period, if you are the product owner you can have a multitude of partners all blitzing their lists on different days, you have the choice.

If you use Clickbank then there is no problem with paying your partner his percentage per sale, if you use PayPal, your partner will always have to wait one or two weeks or to a set date every month before you pay them.

I’ll start this article with a question: Are you be willing to share part of revenue from sales that you would not get otherwise? For most cases, the answer would be YES. There are many methods to market your business online: e.g. pay-per-click campaigns such as Google’s Adword, CPM (= cost per thousand impressions) of your banner on high-traffic sites, ads in newsletters etc. etc. What is common for these marketing methods? You never PAY FOR RESULTS that campaign actually generated. Idea of affiliate marketing is to PAY ONLY FOR RESULTS. Don’t spend money on ineffective advertising; build your own advertising channels instead. Build partnerships – and partners will work for you. That’s why people refer to affiliate marketing as “cost-effective”, “performance-oriented” or “risk-free”.

What kind of business can I market with affiliate program?

Well, hard to find one that you can not. It doesn’t matter if you sell hardware, mortgages, site membership or a service. You can even pay for traffic: pay per click or pay per CPM

Structure of affiliate program

There are 2 basic kinds of rewards: flat fee (=fixed amount) or percentage commission.

Your commissions to affiliates can be based on:

Pay per sale - most common, you pay commission (flat or percentage) for sales referred by your affiliates

Pay per lead - suitable for e.g. membership sites or sites offering paid content: similar to “per sale” model, but you pay for new member subscription.

Pay per CPM - you can pay even for thousand impressions of your banner

Pay per click – if you want to reward each click referred: if you are considering this kind of affiliate program, make a careful research about fraud protection features of solution you choose – otherwise it can cost you a lot of money..

A lot of programs are 2-tiered (2 levels of affiliates) – it means affiliates – parent affiliates can have subaffiliates – and parent affiliate get commission for their subaffiliate’s sales. Subaffiliates are those, who have been invited to your AP by parent affiliate. 2-tiered structure has its advantages: it motivates affiliates to recruit subaffiliates to your AP and maybe even train and communicate with them – which saves your time and generates your revenue.

How to start affiliate program?

There are 3 main possibilities:

Stand alone software

Hosted software

Affiliate network

Stand alone solution – requires software that is installed on your website (called also “affiliate tracking software/script”). Affiliate program is under your total control and responsibility.

Hosted solution – is similar to stand-alone solution, but the software is hosted on 3rd party server – usually offered as service (=monthly payments).

Affiliate network – software is again installed on 3rd party server, in addition to the affiliate tracking you gain immediate access to a network of potential affiliates.

Which solution should I choose?

As regards price:

Stand-alone: one time fee for the software

Hosted: monthly fee, sometimes even progressive charging according to the growth of your affiliate program

Networks: will charge you a transaction fee on each affiliate sale or the will ask you to make minimum monthly payment or combination of those two. Also some fee to join might be included.

Technical skills:

Stand-alone: requires basic skills to install the software (usually installation wizard is available) and to integrate with other systems on your website (such as shopping carts/payment gateways/website itself).

Hosted: almost no skills required

Networks: almost no skills required

Benefits of stand-alone solution.

Since Amazon started its affiliate program, affiliate marketing grew rapidly. Due to its cost effectiveness and undisputed advantages, this field became very competitive. And competition is always good for customers: prices go down.

There is a lot of software sold on the internet today – and not always the highest price means the highest quality! Do not fall for success stories and don’t spend hundreds of dollars for products that are just well marketed: you are probably not “the lucky guy”.

Affiliate marketing is competitive – if you are new to this field you will surely not find the best way to market your business at once. This is MAJOR benefit of stand alone solution: while hosted or network solution offer you few possibilities to change your program, with stand-alone solution you have total control over your program. You can find the best way to market your products. Try and choose the best for you. ALWAYS want software with a lot of features. You might use a few of them at the beginning, but after several months you will certainly use more and more – would you like to pay for them? Or even pay for switching to another solution with extensive features? NO!

We already mentioned the PRICE advantage of stand-alone solution: you pay one time fee – no need to discuss this any more – if you pay monthly, consequently you pay more than even for the most expensive stand-alone software on the net. It is worth to mention that solid software is sold for $150 or even less.

Another benefit is positive effect of affiliate links on your search engine ranking: because the software is installed on YOUR domain, they can help you to improve ranking of YOUR website – not domain of hosted solution.

Also stand alone solutions can be usually better branded for your business and customized for your specific needs.

Cons of stand-alone solution

Everything has its pros and cons. I’ll explain possible cons of stand-alone solution and what it takes to overcome them. If you feel that you’ll not be able to cope with what follows DO NOT choose stand-alone solution.

1. Technical skills – will help you during installation and integration of the software with your shopping cart / payment gateway / website. Usually, very little technical skill is required, which depends also on the level of support provided by vendor and how sophisticated the software is. Generally, if you’ll be able copy/paste some code snippets to certain places on your website or to a template page of your shopping cart, your skills are sufficient…

2. Affiliate recruitment – this is strong selling point of affiliate networks – your program gets immediate exposure to a network of affiliates, while for stand-alone software you’ll need to recruit affiliates yourself. The fact is that you must motivate affiliates of the network as well – if you don’t, they’ll stop promoting your products. Registering your affiliate program to numerous affiliate directories (for free) and setting up appropriate multi-tier structure helps you to recruit affiliates to your program. But it takes time and efforts…

3. Security – with hosted solution you do not need to back-up your database, upgrades are applied by team of people in charge of maintenance. If your solution doesn’t have feature to back-up your database / history this can be serious problem if some hacker attack occurs or something just “goes wrong”.

Whether you have heard about the launch of Affiliate Project X or not, I’m guessing you are hoping to find out if this product can really make you money, or if it is a scam, yesterdays news, the same old same old, etc. Not too much to ask really.

I get annoyed reading so called reviews of affiliate and internet marketing products. You never know if the person behind them is being sincere or even hiding behind a pseudonym. Therefore, I decided that in writing my review of Affiliate ProjectX, I’d include my real name, business details (and photo!). That way you can track me down if you want to abuse me, and be sure I’m not just some obscure testimonial from “never heard of it” USA. To anyone reading this from nowhere USA, no offence intended (smile)!

For the record I’m not an affiliate guru. My background is in marketing and copywriting for major e-commerce and bricks n’ mortar brands. I am a relatively new affiliate marketing wannabe, but like many others, I’ve been interested for long enough to have suffered my share of burns, confusion, and frustrations on the rocky journey to seeking the simple truth about making money online.

I was the guy who subscribed to marketing and affiliate "guru" newsletters just to get hold the free tips bonus e-book. I am still the guy who is sceptical about "get rich quick" deals, but who every now and again, succumbs to the "what if?" sound whispering from my sub-conscious - but only ever after a few days searching for a real review of the product.

I am also the guy who took a long time to get it through his thick skull that most of these guru’s are protecting their territory, rehashing and padding out new e-books with the same old information they have used before or found elsewhere. But I really can’t blame them - sounds like great work if you can get it.

Anyway, despite my waning enthusiasm and growing scepticism for the whole thing, I purchased Affiliate Project X and was very relieving to discover that this product is, in fact, excellent value and really does show the confused and frustrated how to make money in affiliate marketing.

While Affiliate Project X is a great tool for both newbies and those with experience, it does require a very basic understanding of affiliate marketing. I guess the perfect candidates are people like me - those who have been doing a bit of research, gathering information here and there, buying a few products, but itching for someone to come along and explain it all in plain English so we can really get stuck in.

To give you a bit of an idea of what to expect, this is a detailed guidebook of affiliate tactics that super affiliates and a few others know about (or did until now). Chris, the English guy behind the project, has put together a really clear step-by-step guide to understanding and implementing each of the six strategies.

At the risk of sounding like a marketing nerd, I was so excited to finally buy something that offered real value and insider secrets, I couldn’t stop reading it. I actually finished the whole thing in two hours, while I was supposed to be doing a job for a client. The style is easy to read and, while Chris obviously isn’t doing this just because he’s a nice guy, he seems a lot more concerned with helping you understand each step than those hard sell marketing guys I’ve purchased from in the past.

The tactics themselves include the wonderfully named Leech, which shows you how to profit from the most popular info-products on the market. Another is The Workhorse method, which I’ve been using and am very happy to say, is starting to develop into a nice little income stream.

One of the really unorthodox tactics is "Copy the Best 2" method, which teaches you how to make money by only promoting the highest converting keywords, and also how not to lose money on clicks. Don’t worry if Adwords scares you, or sounds too hard. Only some methods in the book involve Adwords to generate traffic, and even then, they are only part of the process. There are alternative methods outlined in the Workhorse and Advanced Tricks sections. But trust me, if I can understand Adwords now, anybody can.

One of the other things that has always frustrated me about affiliate marketing, and prevented me from getting too involved, was an inability to get my head around Clickbank, or should I say, knowing how to find something amongst the tens of thousands of products that will actually sell. I even tried contacting a couple self-proclaimed Clickbank gurus who I had purchased from, only to be told I should upgrade to their megabucks personal coaching program for the answer. Personally, the Clickbank information is one of the highlights of Affiliate Project X. Finally, someone willing to show me the step-by-step method to making real money from Clickbank!

So the big question is, will Affiliate Project X make you rich? To be honest, I don’t know yet. What I can tell you is that this is unlike any of the "all talk no substance" products I’ve purchased in the past. It’s 50 pages of brand new, very detailed, yet easy to absorb information, rather than 200 pages of regurgitated fat that’s been thrown around for the past two years. If you follow the simple steps there is no reason why you can’t make some decent extra income at the very least. After all, I am starting to see it build already, and it’s only been a few days.

I’ve made a commitment to give the Affiliate Project X methods a real go, instead of throwing it in my dusty, bulging "affiliate and internet marketing ideas" file. In addition, I’ve picked up some excellent marketing ideas for my business clients. If a time comes when I can put a photo of my cheesy mansion and ostentatious yacht on my website, you’ll be the first to know!

In the meantime, if you’re looking to get into affiliate and internet marketing, or increase your affiliate sales, I seriously recommend the Affiliate Project X product.

I hope this helps relieve some of the frustrations of my fellow affiliate marketing wannabes.

If you are looking to join an affiliate program, you may benefit from the following steps that can help you to determine whether or not a particular affiliate program is suitable for you.

Things to consider before joining affiliate program.

  1. If you were the customer, would you buy products or services that you about to advertise as an affiliate? This may sound like a hypothetical question but in my opinion this is very important question and the answer to it determines your interest in the products/services. If you can step into the shoes of customer looking for particular product/service, you will be able to understand better to what extend the customer will go to determine the “true” value of the product and the best way to purchase it.
  2. Look what kind of links your advertiser offers you to help you to promote their products. Sometimes you will be able to create links that will link only to home page of advertisers website. It is always better to find advertisers that will offer so called “deep linking”, allowing you to create affiliate links to particular products and services instead just to a home page.
  3. Consider the conversion rate. Many companies have affiliate managers who oversee the affiliate programs. Thy will be happy to provide you with statistical data of how well their websites tend to convert visitors into customers. This information is of particular importance to you if you will be employing pay per click advertising to promote your website.
  4. Payment schedule. Some advertisers will not send payments unless minimum threshold is reached. Amazon, for example, will not issue payments unless an affiliate earned $25 in one quarter. Also some companies, like Amazon, will pay their affiliates only once a quarter.

The above steps are important but if you use them, let them be as starting points in examining particular affiliate program. After you have joined an affiliate program there is one more step I would recommend to take, if possible: make a test purchase. Choose the cheapest product or service and make a purchase. This will accomplish tow things atone time. If, after you purchased a product, you see in your reporting that commission appeared in your account, your affiliate links are working properly and your advertisers reporting is not compromised.

Affiliate marketing is challenging but yet it is very rewarding at the same time.

I hear a lot of internet marketers claim doing business in the World Wide Web requires ones own web site, suggesting that your own website is your online headquarters. It’s your very own digital store where you could lead or send prospects / potential customers and where you offer the products you have for sale.

I agree that having your own web site can help you dramatically in your endeavor to achieve online success, but a website is not the end all and be all of internet salesmanship, especially when talking about affiliate program marketing. You certainly could make a living online as an affiliate even if you do not have the benefit of your own website!

So it is possible to earn a living online and never have your own web site!? How is this possible and more importantly how can this be done? Read on, my new friend, as we discuss alternative strategies that will allows you to make the most out of your affiliate marketing campaigns without having your own webpage on the net.

Affiliate marketing is a program whereby the affiliate can earn some generous commissions for every successful sale they manage to refer to the affiliate merchant. The affiliate’s task is merely to pre-sell the affiliate merchant’s goods. The sales page, the payment processing, the digital delivery, and post sales services shall be the responsibilities of the affiliate merchant. This leaves you free to concentrate on affiliate program promotions.

As an affiliate you have to refer or direct people to the affiliate merchant’s sales page using your affiliate program link. Note: Your affiliate links is extremely important as they identify you instead of someone else plus your affiliate link is how the affiliate program owners know who to pay. They will tell the system that a visitor was actually referred by you the affiliate.

Without a web site to promote or marketing the affiliate programs you belong to you will need other channels to get the word out. This can be done through the following techniques:

Use Article Marketing

We all know how powerful affiliate marketing can be in link building campaigns. But instead of providing for links to your own website, you could provide your affiliate links instead. Article directories allow you a resource box per submission, where you could tell your readers about yourself as well as leave a link of your choice. Now, you have to remember that some article directories do not allow affiliate links in the bodies of the articles themselves, but affiliate links are perfectly allowed in the resource box. Great places to start your article marketing campaign are www.ezinearticles.com , www.goarticles.com and www.isnare.com.

Use Forum Marketing

Online communities, or forums, are likewise great channels where you could promote your affiliate links. Membership in pHp 2.0 based forums gives you a signature box where you could advertise your links. Use this to advertise your affiliate links. For every post you will make, your signature box would appear. Post a thousand messages, and you’ll have a thousand pages advertising your affiliate links! Want to know the forums which are relevant to the subject serviced by the affiliate products you’re promoting? Use the tool at www.link-advantage.com/search to find the appropriate online community.

Advertise in eZines

This may cost you some cash, as many eZines charge for advertising space. Nonetheless, you could expose your affiliate links to highly targeted prospects using this approach. Imagine if the eZine has a list of 10,000 people. You’d immediately be able to reach 10,000 quality leads with one advertisement. Again, you don’t need a website. Simply use your affiliate link in your ads.

The absence of your own website is never a bar to online success. Most of the strategies we have discussed here can be accomplished without spending a single cent. If you do not have the financial resources to register a domain or to subscribe to a web hosting service, you could still achieve success with affiliate marketing. Joining an affiliate program is free. Promoting your affiliate links can likewise be availed of without any charges. Good luck!

Many people are in affiliate marketing but not that many are making full time incomes from it, if you want to make a lot with this and are just starting out here are some steps you must take:

1. Buy the product!

First you must buy the product! I see this mistake being made all the time where marketers don’t buy the product they are promoting and get complaints or people unsubscribing from lists because the product was rubbish. You may make money the first time but after that nobody will buy from you!

2. Send people to an opt in page

If you are using pay per click to promote an affiliate program always make sure you send the traffic to an opt in page so you can start to build your own list of people to promote to at a later stage.

3. Protect your links

Some people feel offended when they see an affiliate link and won’t buy through it. that’s why you need to get a script that creates recommends style links: eg. www.yoursite/recommends. I suggest you get Mike Filsaime’s powerlink generator.

If you follow these steps on the first couple if promotion you do you can easily generate a fairly large list and a tidy sum of money

Neel has just started a four day sale to celebrate the launch of his new site. The sale consists of a group of products bundled together and sold for a low price. the price rises by $10 dollars every day. Neel says: " you’d better get hold of this quick before the price goes up!"
