My first impression of SFI was pretty positive. I read the come-on headline that said SFI was getting 4,000 prospects into the program every week (not every month, but every week).

Man, I figured, this is it, they are in more countries around the world than you can shake a stick at, and this thing is growing like mushrooms on lawns in the Pacific Northwest (we get a lot of rain in the winter). And trust me when I say they had some products and services, more than 600 of them. What’s not to like?

SFI immediately threw out a Smart Start Training Program for newcomers like me, and I went though that baby like a hot knife through butter.

Upon completion of my Smart Start Training, I received notification from SFI that I had qualified for my free shares of Eagle Co-Op. This led me to personally sponsor in two prospects, and at that time I had done nothing to promote my business other than complete the Smart Start Training and become a paying Affiliate. My $29.95 purchase every month qualified me as an Affiliate to earn commissions on my production.

The Eagle Co-Op Program got my attention because I like eagles. Essentially, you buy into the Eagle Co-Op and the company recruits prospects for you, then you try to get the prospects to upgrade and become a paying member of SFI. That’s when the money starts flowing in.

So I bought into the Eagle Co-Op program and dumped some bucks into paid advertising and before two months were up I had 48 prospects (11 of which, or 23%, came from the Eagle Co-Op and 37 of which, the remaining 77%, came from my paid advertising driving prospects to SFI’s sign-up page).

Thirteen of the 48 prospects became Affiliates as I had done, and I received a couple of really minuscule checks. Then the Affiliates did something I was not expecting, after upgrading they quit. Even with all of the support from auto-responders and online training guides and forums, they quit anyway.

The prospects got in and got out so fast I thought an IRS agent was knocking on their door.

It was then that I began to realize that recruiting prospects was one thing and keeping them was another. Now I would not want to beat myself up too much for the effort and investment I put in SFI. I really expected that the mighty SFI, with all of its self-proclaimed beneficence and clout, would have helped to keep them and grow them, but it was not to be.

I would bet that the founder of SFI would have been almost indignant to learn that someone (like me) would had even suggested that the Empowerism training system was more intense, massive and focused than his SFI training system.

SFI also had a free package which included "eight exciting home-business training products and tools valued at over $585" that you could give away to prospects. This was called its Secrets of Internet Millionaires (SIM) package.

I never received one myself because I came in through the PIP opportunity (mentioned in Part 1), but I knew I could drive traffic to the SFI site on the Internet, and my prospects could check it out big time. Apparently the Secrets of Internet Millionaires package got SFI more excited about its program than it did a lot of prospects.

When I finally slowed down enough to look for some evidence to convict me of being successful at SFI, I could find none. It was not long after that I took a closer look at the vaunted Eagle Co-Op Program that touted its ability to separate the wheat from the chaff when it came to prospects.

When I looked at my scorecard more closely and focused on who had produced, this is what I saw: Ed recruited 77% of the prospects through paid advertising, and SFI recruited 23% through its Eagle Co-Op Program.

Every prospect that I recruited and every prospect I sent to SFI’s sign-up page (a ton more) became part of the SFI master mailing list. I had no mailing list because I was not set up to build one. Then I began to wonder if the names SFI was selling me were the recycled rejects of potential prospects another Affiliate drove to SFI’s sign-up page.

Shoot, I had apparently been snookered into another opportunity, and, gosh darn it, had actually enjoyed myself in the beginning of this unfruitful venture. My few measly checks were dwarfed by the time and money investment I had put into SFI.

I began to wonder just how long it was going to take me to realize that affiliate marketing was not for me, and that I was playing to someone else’s strength with my weakness.

Some time later I got the announcement that the same SFI founder had made some sweeping changes to his opportunity because it apparently was not working according to script.

I did not consider this any big news flash because I understand that if a business does not continually re-market itself over time it will cease to exist. Just as the market SFI competes in changes over time so do the buying habits of its consumers.

The final straw came when I attempted to totally opt out of SFI, and much to my chagrin learned that you do not, repeat, do not, just opt out of SFI. No sir, you get their permission to opt out. You cannot opt out unless and until you select a reason for opting out.

If you refuse to give a reason, you cannot leave. While staring at the box at the top of the page that said "Reason is required" I felt like I was being scolded for being a difficult child.

Then I thought, "What is reasonable about this?" I know companies like to survey, but I always considered it a voluntary exercise, not a mandatory sentence for being involved in and helping subsidize SFI’s business. Talk about ingrates.

It all seemed just a tad too controlling, like both the Empowerism and SFI opportunities, overblown and annoying from my prospective.

This article mercifully completes the three-part series about my experience with Empowerism and SFI. I can move on now and become successful as an Internet Marketer.

If your affiliate marketing program isn’t generating as much cash as you expected, you may be either doing it wrong or you don’t have the right affiliate marketing program. You should look for the best affiliate program that will make you earn a substantial amount of income. It is a fact that many people who have chosen the best affiliate marketing program have earned a lot of money that they even considered to leave their regular jobs and fully concentrate on the affiliate marketing program business.

You may think that the best affiliate program is not easy to come by and that they can cost too much, but the best affiliate program is not really what it seems. You will find that the best affiliate marketing program is widely available in the Internet and can only cost you a small amount of money and some are even free.

Many people don’t really see that a particular affiliate marketing program is the best even if they always cross paths with it on the Internet. So, in order to recognize that an affiliate marketing program is the best kind, you should know how to look for one.

There are three features that you should look for in an affiliate marketing program in order to know that it’s the best kind and will generate a good amount of income for you.

The first feature you should look for in an affiliate marketing program is that it should be easy to duplicate. Choosing an affiliate program shouldn’t just be easy to implement and get results in terms of income, it should also be easy for you and others to duplicate. Obviously, the reason for this is that you can duplicate your success and with this, you can duplicate your income.

The second feature that you should look for in an affiliate program is it should have tasks that have to be repeated everyday. This feature is a sign that the affiliate marketing program is one of the best and is an income earning potential. With tasks that have to be repeated daily, you can expect that this program will get you the best results from any marketing program.

The third feature that an affiliate marketing program will have is it will take in a lot of people who will otherwise not even give it a second look. This is because many people who see affiliate programs like this tend to think that it’s just another affiliate program that doesn’t work. In fact, affiliate programs like these are what super affiliates use in order to profit a lot of money from and spend little for it. These are the things that people usually ignore.

So, the next time you are looking for the best affiliate marketing program, consider these three features and look for them in an affiliate marketing program. You will see that it is widely available in the Internet and all you have to do is find the one that is suited to your website.

By having a good affiliate marketing program, you will be able to earn a lot of money from it. You should also expect that it will require little maintenance and will generate a substantial amount of income for you and your family. Who knows, maybe this is the answer to all your financial needs. With the best kind of affiliate marketing program, you will be able to earn a lot of money and worry less about maintaining your website.

Pizza?

Imagine you open a restaurant. It is 2 weeks before you are set to open and you are entirely sure of the exact concept yet. You like the idea of making great gourmet pizzas. You know a pizza operator across town and he makes great money doing it, so you decide that’s what you will do too.

After your first week you start to realize that the pizza business is a hard business. You are very busy and working long hours but it is hard to turn a buck. You decide that it is not right for you as you don’t know enough about the pizza business and you convert it over to a hamburger business.

No, burgers!

The hamburger chains are making a killing and their burgers are ‘crap’ so if you make a decent burger you are sure to be a success. Of course, your burger costs much more to make than theirs. You forgot that although the chains make bad burgers, they make good businesses. You also feel that you need to be less expensive than they are to make sure your patrons stay with you. You end up selling a pile of burgers and you sure are busy, but in the end you lose money.

Maybe chicken and ribs?

You are not in business to lose money so you decide to close up shop for the weekend and figure out what is the ‘secret’ you are missing. You decide that what you really need is expert help so you hire a restaurant consultant. He has a client in neighboring town that sells fried chicken and ribs. He makes a killing! The consultant advises you to do the same and sells you a step by step guide to make a killing selling chicken and ribs. Unfortunately, you can’t stand chicken or ribs and have no passion for selling them so you cannot turn a profit in this endeavor either.

Forget the restaurant business…let me sell something!

You decide that the restaurant business is simply not for you but you are interested in exploring Multi Level Marketing…if only you can find the ‘secret’ to success in that industry…

By now I hope that you can see the parallels between this story and average internet marketers. Nobody would consider starting and running a restaurant in this manner; it seems quit silly. So why do people think it’s ok to run their internet marketing business like this? Is it any less of a real business?

If you want to be successful in this business, treat it like the real business that it is. Make a detailed plan, stick to it and don’t let yourself be distracted. Make sure that the strategy you pick is something that excites you so you will not be tempted to move on to the next ‘hot’ opportunity.

Successful people stay the course in spite of obstacles or doubts, you can too!

It’s no secret to anyone trying to "crack the code" with Affiliate Marketing that finding hot markets that are just waiting to give you their money in exchange for whatever product you’re offering them, right? And it seems like nobody is really willing to part with their secrets of just how to find those hot & hungry markets.

Well, I decided to share a method that I’ve been using to successfully find those red hot buyers for awhile now. The key to remember is to find the market that wants to buy something first; then you proceed to sell them whatever it is they want. Easy, right?

Not for some folks. Here’s one way to go about it.

You need to find out what people are buying, right now, in the largest demand.

Do a search on Overture - http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ for your "root keyword". Let’s say it’s baby showers. Overture tells me at this given moment, 91,671 searches were made for this term last month. Not a bad market size at all.

===========================================================

IMPORTANT HINT: When using the keywords uncovered by your research, it is important to know that generally multi-word keyword phrases are what you want to target in your marketing activities because:

People who type in single words are the tire-thumpers - they are (probably) not "buyers"!

These folks are probably just starting to surf the web and may or may not be looking to buy. However, someone typing "best prices on kick bikes in Australia" is probably going to be buying a kick bike in Australia. That makes sense, right?

===========================================================

Look at the results for some of the other keyword phrases and you’ll see there’s a lot of activity in this market.

Jot down the top multi-word keyword phrases that seem to make sense and then we’ll go about doing our market research in Part Two of this article.

Video sharing websites like Google Video and YouTube have exploded in the past year. Since the beginning of 2006, YouTube alone has grown from infancy to become the 8th most popular website on the Internet. That’s over 1.9 Million hits PER DAY! All that traffic makes video sharing websites a TON of money in advertising dollars. They benefit financially by tapping into our inner desire to share with each other. As we post our favorite videos and email the site to our friends and family, this exposure grows virally. Best of all, the search engines just love it!

Imagine if we could capitalize on this excitement, perhaps by generating income from Google Adsense ads on each page or by including a link to sites we’re trying to promote.

A Better Way

I recently discovered a company that takes video sharing to a new level. TheVideoSense has modified video sharing by integrating Google Adsense ads within the pages. As site visitors view the video, they see related Adsense ads. Unlike the current major players, TheVideoSense shares the revenue generated with people like you and me as we share our videos. Best of all, there is no cost to join!

Here’s how it works. After signing up (free, remember?), we visit Google Video and YouTube to find any videos that interest us. Both sites provide a URL code for the video that we simply copy and paste into our account. It couldn’t be simpler.

I found 14 popular videos on Google and YouTube, copied the embedded code they provide freely, and then pasted it onto my video page…all in about one hour. What makes TheVideoSense unique is that they hardcode Adsense ads on the webpage created with my Google affiliate ID. The videos I added are made available to all visitors to the TheVideoSense website. As visitors to TheVideoSense view the videos I “shared” (and remember I got them absolutely free), they see MY Adsense ads. As visitors email the page to their friends, exposure grows exponentially!

The big boys no longer need to dominate the video sharing market. Thanks to companies like TheVideoSense, we can all tap into this explosive craze.

Computers are just one of the most amazing inventions ever made by man. Because of this gadget, many improvements have been made. And it doesn’t end there. The use of the computer was even enhanced with the introduction of the internet. Communications were vastly improved, and different businesses are finding the net a very useful tool in conducting their business.

Affiliate programs are making their way in the internet world. It is a great business opportunity for any individual who desires to earn unlimited income. It doesn’t matter if you have a present job or if you’re just staying at home. As long as you have an internet connection, you can be an affiliate.

Is there an exact way to master affiliate programs? There are a lot of sources on the internet which says that they can teach you ways to master affiliate programs. But don’t believe on those deceptions, oftentimes they are too misleading, look for a good source, one that is true and already tested.

Affiliate programs are great because you don’t need an initial investment to start such venture. People with no business capital are easily attracted to this kind of business opportunity. You will be part of a particular company’s sales force, and you’ll be working on a commission basis.

E-commerce sites run affiliate programs to enable them to increase sales figures. Affiliates usually have their own websites where they place banner/button ads and text ads on email messages that promote the products of the e-commerce site. The affiliates are then paid with a certain percentage of each sale they are able to make.

Affiliate program is a practical business. You can do it part time, or if you’re serious about it, you can do it full time. If you exert your efforts on it full time, you’re guaranteed to earn more money than the casual affiliate.

Before deciding to become an affiliate, you must first establish your own website. This is where you’ll display all promotional information of your ‘mother’ company. Casual affiliates use email newsletters to get leads for the company but having a site is much more advantageous especially to the serious affiliate.

The next step is to find an effective way to drive a large number of possible subscribers to your site. You might consider purchasing a list of emails or ads to increase traffic in your site. If in the real world, you’re always avoiding traffic, well on the net, you’ll be looking forward for it. You can also combine traffic and newsletters. But make sure that you follow the company’s regulations regarding email marketing.

Hundreds or even thousands of companies offer affiliate programs. There is a need to choose one particular affiliate program that catches your interest. In any venture that you undertake, you must love what you’re doing. And if you know the products that the company offers, then it will be easier for you to sell it to other prospects.

The business opportunity that you’ve been waiting for may lie within these affiliate programs. Don’t be scared of the competition on the net, if you can survive the challenges that you’re about to face, then it means that you deserve the money that you’re earning. If you’re competitive enough, you’ll earn a great deal of money.

Jeremy Palmer and I held a Holiday Shopping Teleseminar on Black Friday (November 24th) to assist marketers ready their sites for the busy holiday season ahead.

The good news is that if you haven’t started your holiday promotions, you still have time to do so. Contrary to the popular claim that Cyber Monday is the biggest online shopping day of the year, Comscore ranks it as the 12th busiest shopping day and most e-tailers report their peak days happening between December 5th and the 15th.

Better yet, the opportunity for new and seasoned affiliate marketers continues to expand. Disenchanted with holiday shopping crowds, limited selection and stock, a record 114 million people are forecast to buy online this year; and the average consmer will spend $728 - compared to $681 in 2006.

Here are 10 basic points to consider as you prepare both your site and your paid search campaigns.

  1. Know your merchants’ shipping cut-off dates and inventory status. Merchants will communicate this information to affiliates either through email or their sites. Cease paid search campaigns for those merchants and or products that are out of stock or that cannot reach the consumer in time for Christmas delivery.
  2. Look for last minute opportunities. Promote gift cards and certificates for merchants that pay a referal fee, such as Amazon which is paying 6% on gift certificates until December 31st. Be aware of those merchants that offer express shipping and in-store pickup.
  3. Know what your audience wants. The most popular items to promote include clothing, books, toys, music, fragrances, consumer electronics and gift baskets.
  4. Seek out specialty merchants. Brookstone.com, Hammacher Schlemmer, and Sharper Image all specialize in higher-end, unique gift items.
  5. Limit the number of merchants that you promote to a manageable number. Seek out those that don’t sell offline and/or offer expanded online selection. Refrain from promoting merchants that have stores in every town or that offer in-store only deals and pricing, ie. Circuit City, Best Buy and WalMart.
  6. Get in touch with your merchant partners. Ask them what their recommedations are regarding hot product and best deals.
  7. Address your visitors’ concern for price. Promote those merchants that offer the best prices, deals and coupons.
  8. Focus on your paid search campaigns. Budget for higher volume and review ad costs and sales reports from merchants and ad campaigns daily. 58% of people shop at work on Mondays after a frustrating weekend shopping offline, so where possible (MSN Adcenter) target your ads to specific days of the week, or times of the day. Consider direct linking (arbitrage) where permitted by your merchant partners.
  9. Increase your broadcast message frequency. Your subscribers are actively looking for deals at this time of year - be the first to tell them about the best ones!
  10. Stay focused. While we all want to have the perfect site that promotes all the best merchants; limit your site changes, landing page creations and paid search campaigns to a number that you can handle.

Keep those points in mind and you’re guaranteed to have a Happy Holiday!

Now it is time to do more market research.

First go to PayPal.com and click on the Shops link at the bottom of the page. PayPal lists over 42,000 websites here by category. Click on the category you’re researching in the Categories column on the left. PayPal then displays the top shops in that category, ranked by volume - the number of sales made through PayPal. Look around a bit and find a high volume product in your category and you’re off to the races.

Ok, now that you’ve looked at PayPal and found what looks like a popular market, the next step is a little research with Google.

Go to http://www.groups.google.com I the search box, enter the name of a product that you’re considering promoting. Example: baby shower favors. This search will list the different groups discussing your product. Click on a few of the links to see how many people are posting to these different groups. If there are a lot of people posting, then apparently there is considerable interest in the product and it should be very much in demand.

Next, visit Amazon.com and click on the "Top Sellers" tab. These are the most popular items selling on Amazon, updated every hour. This will give you an overall view of popular items currently selling online.

One final resource is eBay. Click over to http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html to find out which categories and products are hot - and where you’ll probably be able to find all sorts of ideas about products that are currently in demand!

These methods may seem boring, but the key to successful Affiliate Marketing is based on being willing to do the "boring stuff" that will save you time & money in the long run!

I have been in the IT industry for over twenty years but in the last two years I have started to learn the art of Shiatsu; a Japanese massage therapy. I intend over time to build a practise and move from full time computer development to part-time alongside my Shiatsu practise.

I started to build a website and then a blog simply as a skills development exercise. The blog became more important and ShiatsuBlogger was launched. As you learn more about web development and blogging you soon meet the concept of affiliate revenue and Google’s Adsense. I was keen to learn more and soon my site sported a small area of Adsense code.

I had to ask myself if it was right to put Adsense onto a site that is about healing and personal development and very obviously answered that is was, but why?

Shiatsu may be a healing art but it is also a commercial activity. People learn it either for a hobby or to start a practise; a business. If I become a successful Shiatsu practitioner then I will be making money and there is no shame in that.

The ShiatsuBlogger site was started firstly as an experiment but now it is my growing on-line presence. Web advertising will be an important part of publicising my business in the future and it is important to start building a reputation soon. As a student I cannot yet earn from Shiatsu treatments but if my knowledge and experiences can be of value to my readership there is no reason not to realise that value through Adsense or a donation page.

That is the important point that I want to make in this article. Knowledge has a value and although we may put our knowledge on-line for free it is perfectly OK to monetize the site and earn something for your effort. Being shy about earning money is not helpful and if you hope to run any sort of business shyness is not an asset.

Tony Brown is currently studying with the Shiatsu College in Brighton. He started http://www.ShiatsuBlogger.co.uk to share his experiences of learning Shiatsu with fellow students.

Mistake Number Four: "Failing To Start Building an Opt-In List"

You have probably heard the saying "The money is in the list." Well, let me tell you that statement is true. Once you start building a list of people in a specific niche, you’ll be amazed by how easy it can be to promote new products that you come across in this same niche to your list.

One of my successful Affiliate Marketing buddies, let’s call him Mr. X just because he’s a shy guy (He really does exist … this is a true anecdote). Mr. X is a very successful Affiliate Marketer, making more money online than most doctors do. He’s been doing this for almost three years, the 12 months or so he’s been doing it full time.

Well, Mr. X decided last May (2006) to begin building his list. He had been promoting products as an affiliate for over two years and had ignored this crucial element that brings even more success. And now today, late November 2006, he just told me that he has over 100,000 names on his list! Now his "list" is actually about a dozen or so smaller lists, each in a different niche market.

But think of it. 100,000 people that Mr. X can promote new products to, over and over again. A list this size built in less than 7 months is incredible. But think of how much money Mr. X probably left on the table by failing to begin his list building until recently. Probably more than many folks make in a year, I’d wager.

The moral of the story is this. Get started building your own list now.

List building in an absolute necessity for any successful Affiliate Marketer. There are two excellent resources that you can look into that will help you learn how to begin building your own list from the ground up and then promoting to it, quickly and easily, whenever you uncover a new product to promote.

The first resource is an eBook called "Inside The List" by two fellows named Kyle & Carson. These guys are known as "The Wealthy Affiliates" on the forum by the same name that they run for Affiliate Marketers. Their book, "Inside the List" is an absolute masterpiece for showing you each & every aspect you need to know about to begin building your own list.

The other resource is a set of videos showing you exactly how to compose "killer" emails to send to your list. And the amazing part about this product is that the author, Michael Rasmussen, will give you the basic set of videos for FREE! You definitely need to check out "Email Promos Exposed" if you have ever wondered what to say to your list when you actually email them or if you ever suffer from "writer’s block". Michael leads you by the hand in actually creating killer emails from start to finish.

There is also a "premium" version to the product that has three more videos, each targeting a specific area of email marketing, one of them being a video for Affiliate Marketing emails. The Deluxe version is $97 but if you’re at a point where you really want to explode your email marketing skills, it’s well worth it.
